Sex is fine, but my OBGYN says no?! in Women's Health ·
This topic is basically calling my name.
I am genuinely terrified of going to the gynecologist. I’m 19, I’ve been sexually active with my partner for years now, and I have yet to step foot in an OBGYN office. I practice safe sex and haven't run into any issues so far, but there's a massive history of it in my family—my mom, grandma, great-grandma—they all dealt with high estrogen levels and fibroids. Each one had to have her uterus removed even earlier than the last, and they all endured agonizing pain for years because their doctors couldn't really do much to help. (There’s more to the story, but nothing life-threatening, just painful, so I won't drag this out...)
Lately, I’ve started feeling those same kinds of pains myself. Now I’m fully aware that I HAVE to go get checked out, but I honestly just need someone to give me a little pep talk. (It’s not even that I’m scared of what the results might show; I’m scared of the actual exam itself, so hearing some positive experiences would really help...)
I don't even know which doctor to see. Everywhere I look, I hear nothing but horror stories. And I really want to actually trust the person who’s sticking fingers and instruments inside me every few months...
If anyone here has been in a similar spot—just as terrified but managed to go see a doctor who was actually professional, gentle, or decent enough to recommend—please let me know...
