I didn't deal with any side effects at all while I was on the NuvaRing. Seriously, there was zero weight gain for me.
But then again, is it even possible for someone else to actually experience that kind of reaction? I don't know...
Lately, I keep running into these articles where women are talking about how using the NuvaRing can lead to fatal consequences—God forbid anyone goes through that—but let's be real, everything we take is ultimately our own responsibility and risk.

Honestly, I love this NuvaRing (I’m basically a broken record here 🤣 )
As for that brown spotting—personally, I wouldn't sweat it too much. It shouldn't mess with how well the ring works as long as you put it in on schedule (and looking at your post, I’m assuming you did since it’s your first time using it).
Just flip through the little instruction booklet and check the side effects section; they explain everything pretty clearly there.
It’s totally POSSIBLE that next month you won't even have a period at all, just that weird discharge instead.
Either way, your flow is definitely going to lighten up.
I used to deal with the most insane, heavy periods—honestly, it was terrifying just trying to walk into a Target or go anywhere else because even using a tampon and a pad at the same time didn't stop the bleeding. It was a total nightmare... 🙄 (like I mentioned before), but I feel like a new person now! My periods are way more manageable.

maybe you just need to hang in there for the first month while everything settles down... I honestly think this whole thing is a massive shock to the system and it takes a little while for your body to finally "sync up."
Of course, if it’s still acting up next month, or if it keeps dragging on for the entire duration—then you really need to call Dr. 😉

But honestly, I am beyond thrilled because I used to bleed like a stuck pig for days on end. I used to carry a spare set of clothes to work every single day and just pray to God I’d actually make it to my destination without passing out, since the blood loss used to leave me feeling so weak and anemic 🙄. This thing has been a total lifesaver!! Now, I don't have to play hermit and avoid going anywhere during those first three days anymore ☕ 🙂

Back again. It’s been nearly a year now, and I just wanted to drop in and confirm that I am still perfectly happy using my NuvaRing.

P.S. I remember seeing a comment way back at the start of this thread where someone mentioned they stopped getting their period entirely while they were still young... well, that hasn't happened to me. I still get mine, it's just incredibly predictable now—it shows up almost right on the dot🙂—and the flow is much lighter than it used to be, which, honestly, I absolutely love.

My first time using birth control—and I am honestly thrilled!
I’m already starting my second pack and haven't dealt with a single side effect yet—fingers crossed it stays this way.
Even my breast size hasn't changed at all, not even by half a cup size 🤷 🙂
And my libido is still exactly where it was before 🙂 (though I know plenty of women complain about it tanking once they start hormones!).
That's the bottom line!
Based on how things have gone for me so far, I’d tell any woman to go for it... it’s just one less thing to worry about.
