How does a man decide to become an OB-GYN? in Women's Health ·
I’m not sure which part I failed to make clear, but until I was actually convinced they were potentially even better than the women's versions, I just assumed they weren't any good. Okay?

I feel like I should weigh in here because I’ve held this pretty stubborn belief for a while now—that men just can't be great gynecologists since they can't truly grasp what we experience. It’s kind of like having a headache; if you have one too, then I can roughly imagine how it feels for you.
I’ve seen four different female OB-GYNs, including one who was honestly just a nightmare to deal with, and then I ended up seeing a male doctor. He was actually wonderful; he explained everything so clearly, just like any other physician would. At the end of the day, this is all just part of holistic medicine, though I suppose we’re still a bit skeptical, especially since sexual and reproductive health issues remain such a massive taboo. If you're in pain, there's absolutely no reason to feel ashamed, and these professionals are there specifically to help us. As for why they choose this field, I guess I don't really know. Maybe some have odd motivations, or maybe they’re just genuinely fascinated by the science. Personally, I think they might actually be better at what they do. I have an appointment with him this Tuesday, and I'm curious to see how it goes, but I'm not nervous—because when you're facing a health issue, you just want to seek out the best care possible for yourself.
