Walter Jackson48 and Kyle Johnson2, I really appreciate you guys. Both formulas work perfectly, though Kyle Johnson2, yours is definitely shorter and way easier to wrap my head around. Major props to both of you. Thanks again. Kyle Johnson2, I have a feeling you might actually remember what I’m using this formula for :-).
You gave me some advice earlier about that bowling results spreadsheet, telling me to stay away from using hidden columns. Well, thanks to this formula, those hidden columns aren't even an issue anymore.
Seriously, a huge THANK YOU to both of you!
Walter Jackson48, thanks, but I really don't think this is working the way it's supposed to.
When you start plugging values into the cells, it sums up correctly through A3:A6, but once you hit A7, A8, and so on, the result just stays frozen regardless of what you type in!
What we actually need is a formula that can hunt down the very last non-zero cell, then use an OFFSET to look upwards from there—specifically targeting that last non-zero value plus nine cells above it. I've been banging my head against the keyboard trying to figure this out, but I'm getting nowhere.
I need some help here! How do I set up a formula in a single data range so it always sums up the last ten cells? If I have a defined field from A1 down to A50, how can I make cell A51 automatically show the sum of the last ten values entered?
John, you're a lifesaver! Thanks so much!
Regarding those spreadsheets, man, they aren't even mine. I was just asked to step in and help out. I managed to sort everything else, but I was totally stuck on how to build a top 5 list. I can get by in Excel, but obviously, I'm nowhere near your level! Seriously, huge thanks, I really appreciate it!
So much for me trying to help! :-(
Kyle Johnson2, here’s that spreadsheet with the sample data you wanted!

Kyle Johnson2, how do I set up an example for a download? Thanks for the file you posted! I actually need exactly what you made, but flipped on its head—I want the player names sitting right there in the header. In my version, the players' roll results would run down the columns, while the turn numbers go down the rows. As it stands in your example, I could easily handle this using VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP and stuff, but I’m hitting a wall trying to get Excel to tell me which specific series hit the highest score. My end goal is to have it return the column name instead of just a row number.
tnx
My bad, I messed up the formulas. Here we go... =LARGE(B3:C5,1) ...
Look, thanks for putting in the work, and my bad if I wasn't clear before.
Let me lay it out this way. We’ve got some data here. Say Player A had certain scores in a bowling league, which are listed in the column below. Same goes for Players B and C. What we're trying to do is pull the top three scores and figure out exactly which person hit those specific numbers. If I type =large(a2:c4;1) in one cell, =large(a2:c4;2) in the next, and =large(a2:c4;3) in the third, the math works fine—that part is easy. But the headache starts when I actually want to label them: who got the #1 score, who got #2, and who got #3!
It should look something like this:
A B C D E F G
1 PLAYER TOP 3
2 A B C SCORE PLAYER
3 1 8 7 9 ?
4 2 4 6 8 ?
5 3 9 0 7 ?
How the hell do I replace those question marks?
Thanks, everyone!
Hey everyone!
Can someone give me a hand with something?
I'm working in Excel
So, let's say I have a table set up like this:
A B C
1 8 7
2 4 6
3 9 0
I want to write a formula where if a cell equals 3, it displays "A", and if it's 4, it shows "B", and so on.
I tried using HLOOKUP but I can't get it to work for the life of me!
Please help!
Thanks
