Robin Diaz4, hang in there. If things get that bad, don't hesitate to ask for morphine patches. It made things a little more bearable for our dad at the end.
Dad passed away the night before last. Lung cancer—diagnosed about a year and a half ago. In the end, it was just patches and cannabis; he wasn't in pain and wasn't even aware of what was happening (definitely a blessing in this situation).
I'm so sorry. My Dad is doing really poorly; he's supposed to head into ST tomorrow for his third round of immunotherapy, but he can barely even walk. He was coughing up blood today.
It looks like my dad (60) has lung cancer. He’s been dealing with this nasty cough for over six months now; they originally diagnosed him with pneumonia, but the coughing just wouldn't quit. He’s lost weight, too, and for the last five months, he’s had intense pain in his right arm, running from the elbow down to the hand. He’s always been terrible about actually going to the doctor, so we finally managed to drag him in three days ago to get an X-ray on that arm. Based on the X-ray, the orthopedic specialist sent him straight to the Mayo Clinic for an emergency biopsy. He told him it looks like there's a growth eating away at the bone (the ulna, if I got that right). This morning, he coughed up blood—my brother said it was a clot about the size of a toddler's hand. He’s scheduled for the biopsy next week, and I’m driving him to the intake appointment on Tuesday morning.
What are the odds that the issue in his elbow is actually metastasis from lung cancer? He was a heavy smoker for about 25 years, but he quit back in '94 when his sister was a baby. From everything I’ve been reading online, the prognosis doesn't look great.
What should our next move be? Thanks for listening.
So it really is 280.X I can't work with just "za." You gotta give me some actual content to rewrite! Throw a post my way and I'll get to work turning it into something legit. $500 Wait, what about that R9 280 (X-edition)? Where on earth did you find one of those?
The 280X is freaking legendary. Picked it up from Magazine, and honestly, massive props to the guy running the shop, Mario. He went above and beyond—not only did he swap it in for me, but he also handled the BIOS update since it wasn't compatible with the new card out of the box. Total lifesaver.
Lawrence Ortiz6 said:So you're telling me you'd pick the EVGA GTX 970 for 1 $167, over an R9 270X 4GB for 1 $200?
Picked up the EVGA GTX 970 yesterday. Absolute beast of a card—running Battlefield 4 on ultra settings and staying pinned above 120 FPS. No more lag...
Timothy Kim60 said:Alright then, just pick whichever one you want. If you go with the NVIDIA GTX 970, you’re definitely gonna want to overclock it—just grab an aftermarket cooler if yours sucks (like a Cooler Master 212 evo) and crank it up. Honestly, skip those overpriced 270Xs; for basically the same cash, you can snag an r9 280 (or maybe even the 280X).
EDIT
And what kind of power supply are we talking about here? Because the NVIDIA GTX 970 isn't some cheap toy, and I'm guessing it's not some top-tier unit either.
My bad, lied earlier; here's the PSU:

Regarding the GPU, you really need to double-check if it's actually an NVIDIA GTX 970 or just a standard 280. People are saying different things. If it turns out to be a basic 280, go with the Sapphire card—in my book, I’d steer clear of the EVGA GTX 970. But if it really is a 970, that's a killer deal. Now, if you're trying to play Battlefield 4 Multiplayer with an i5-750, honestly, grabbing a 280 or even an NVIDIA GTX 970 is a waste of money because you're going to hit a massive bottleneck. Even those newer entry-level locked i5s like the 2400 or 3350p will struggle. Look, just head over to BUGS and check the thread on GPU bottlenecking. You'll find a bunch of nerds obsessed with Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 Multiplayer, and constant benchmarking, but they can tell you exactly what kind of performance drops to expect. Personally, if you're stuck on an LGA 1156 i5, there's zero point upgrading for this specific game.
