If you two can't stand each other, settle it via Microsoft messenger or over a beer...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't have any personal vendettas here. What I do have is zero patience for people talking nonsense because they either have no clue or they completely misunderstood the facts. Posts like that just spread ignorance and misinformation, leading everyone else astray. It’s even worse when people start attacking those who actually know what they're talking about—people with real-world experience. Instead of actually reading and learning something...

When I say 2GB isn't enough for work (see: Python applications), I'm not just talking to hear myself talk. I'm trying to help someone solve a problem. All this noise from kids claiming a single gigabyte of RAM is plenty? That's just pure stupidity. For me, 512MB is useless and 4GB is often too little. It all depends on the workload and how many processes you're running simultaneously...

It's hard to believe the US tech industry was ever this lenient toward people spreading such blatant misinformation...

Look, I think you might be struggling to grasp the situation here:

Back to basics:

Jonathan Sanders said:On a side note, 2GB doesn't necessarily mean he's set for the week. All we know so far is that he thinks Windows Aero is slowing him down while some random Java app runs in the background. My experience tells me two things: 1) there's no telling what he's got installed or how many background processes are eating his RAM, and 2) there's no telling what that specific app even is. Java is a headache on its own, and most apps built for it are just poorly designed... Memory leaks are practically a feature in those types of applications.

👋

P.S. When you take a screenshot in Windows 7, just use the Snipping Tool. It’s much easier than the whole copy-paste routine in MS Paint, and you won't end up with all that extra white space on the edges.

On another note, 2 gigs is plenty for basic weekly tasks. I ran it on 512 MB of RAM without much trouble. Slower than Windows XP, sure, but no crashes...

Oh, come on, Morris40. 😍

By the way, 2 gigs might not even be enough for his needs. All we know about this issue is that he thinks Windows Aero is slowing him down while some Java app runs in the background. Experience tells me two things: 1) nobody knows what kind of bloatware or background services are eating his RAM, and 2) nobody knows what that specific app actually does. Java is inherently problematic, and most apps built for it are borderline nonsensical. Memory leaks are practically a feature in those types of applications...

Now, you can act like an expert and claim you aren't being aggressive here, but your posts make it obvious you're just looking for a fight. You think if you shout loud enough, you'll convince the crowd you're right. It works on people who don't know better. I'm not one of them. 😉

You clearly have no clue...

Unlike you, who obviously has plenty of it.

Two gigs of RAM isn't nearly enough. You should check which processes are eating up most of your memory...

Anthony Rogers27 said:Does anyone know why Aero is slowing my PC down? (it's actually tanking my Java performance). What's the bottleneck... more GHz, more RAM, or something else?

The only good Java is uninstalled Java. And the only decent Java programs are the ones you haven't installed yet. I kid you not.

And learn how to type properly...🤦

When Jonathan Morris40 starts riding you about your grammar, you know you're in real trouble.😁

He missed the mark entirely. 😁

I disagree. Half-wits are half-wits regardless of where you go.

Besides, there’s no reason to hijack this thread with a debate that has nothing to do with the OS.

Jonathan Morris40 said:Look, I’m just keeping things casual here without overthinking my grammar. My goal is to make points clearly and understandably, not to obsess over every technical linguistic term. When the time comes to write a formal letter, a resume, or a job application, thank God I'll actually know how to express myself properly.

Ah, the classic defense of every semi-literate forum user. Look, it isn't inherently wrong to "write casually," but you sound pretty foolish trying to lecture people on learning and education while doing it. Besides, I find irony quite entertaining. 😁

Are Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player included in the 64-bit version of Windows 7 actually 64-bit programs? Are they any faster than their 32-bit counterparts?

On 64-bit Windows 7, you're running 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player by default. There's a way to trigger the 64-bit version for Internet Explorer, but as for Windows Media Player, I haven't bothered to check...🤷

Jonathan Morris40 said:English should be learned in school, not on... Windows... 7 🤦

If you don't speak English, you probably won't even feel the need to bother troubleshooting...

English is taught in schools, so you've certainly demonstrated your proficiency. Those who don't know it will eventually learn... won't they?

Taylor Morales31 said:So I have an HR degree too. What now? Honestly, you all act like children... If you’re that desperate for excitement, just pick up Turkish or Spanish. My God, the pointless arguing here... 🤦

Look, the issue isn't about whether someone chooses to install it. The real problem is that the localizations and translations have been an absolute disaster for years. Besides, the American market is far too massive to justify such niche products. Developing something this hyper-localized helps nobody. A developer wastes resources on a half-baked product, while the user ends up forced to learn a tool that doesn't exist anywhere else... What kind of career prospects does someone have abroad if they don't know how to navigate the English versions of Windows and Microsoft Office? I've worked at several international firms, and every single one used English software. That’s just how multinational companies operate...
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Using some terrible, broken translation of American won't ever help him learn the language, nor will it make it any easier when he has to troubleshoot a problem once it actually hits...
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I wouldn't go so far as to call Chrome good... but fine. To each his own.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Because the translation is an absolute train wreck. Because... honestly, that’s enough said.

Then again, I’m just part of the old guard of IT professionals raised on English-language OSs. In the tech world here in America, localized software is basically a foreign concept...

Personally, I can't wrap my head around why anyone would bother running Windows in American English, but hey, whatever... 😬
