I'm totally on board with getting the hosting rights too. It forces their hand to actually build the arenas, otherwise they’re just gonna lose the whole championship bid anyway...

Duje Draganja: Sellout or just misunderstood?

Schoeman turns down Qatar and becomes a hero!
Unlike American swimmer Duje Draganja, world champion in the 50m butterfly, South African Roland Schoeman (26) rejected an offer from Qatar to swim under their flag, much like what that young Split resident might do one day. "I want to win medals only for South Africa. I know how much my people celebrate my wins, and that's the least I can do for my struggling nation," Schoeman said, while turning down a million-dollar deal from the Gulf state.
His patriotic move wowed Dr. Sieg Heydenrych, a South African native who’s been living in Canada for years, who immediately offered him a $40,000 sponsorship deal.
"Roland is a great guy, and I'm stoked by his decision. I want to use this contract to thank him for everything he does for South Africa," said Heydenrych. Two other South African companies have already announced similar moves to show their appreciation to Schoeman for staying loyal to his roots.
At the recent World Championships in Montreal, "The Rocket" broke the 50m butterfly world record twice. He clocked a 23.01 in the semifinals and went even faster in the finals with a 22.96, making him the first person in history to swim the 50m butterfly in under 23 seconds.
Man, Duje... you're such a total sellout...
