Best external hard drives to buy right now?

I’ve been scrolling through the last few pages of this thread—it’s quite a read!—and honestly, I am feeling totally torn about what to pick.
So, here's the deal: I need to grab an external hard drive. When I first started browsing online, I was leaning heavily toward a 1 TB Western Digital, but after reading some of the posts in here, I’m starting to have second thoughts about going with WD. Now I'm wondering... what is actually the absolute best move here? $333(And, obviously, I’m looking for the best bang for my buck—you know how it is!) I also can't help but wonder if it's actually possible to find something truly high-quality, like that ADATA-in model everyone seems to be talking about. Originally, I was aiming for something in the 750GB to 1TB range, but now I'm even considering a 500GB drive—though only if it turns out to be an absolute steal. If anyone could suggest a solid 750-1000 GB option, I’d really appreciate it. From what I can gather, the specs seem pretty much identical across the board, unless there's some sort of major difference in the bundled software—which, if I'm being honest, I don't quite understand myself.
