But then again, what counts as "real" brown sugar?
I’m not looking to drop any weight, but I really do want to start eating more thoughtfully...
When my daughter was little, she used to have this reaction to certain metal components found in rivets—you know, those little metal studs you see on jeans—and in costume jewelry. I was always so hesitant to buy her tops with any kind of hardware because she’d end up breaking out in a rash wherever the metal touched her skin.
Even just wearing a cheap fashion necklace would turn her neck bright red immediately.
Whenever that irritation flared up, we would try to soothe it by applying some Neosporin...
We never actually bothered taking her for formal allergy testing, mostly because the allergen—I believe it was nickel—seemed relatively easy enough to avoid if we were careful.
Gold was never an issue for her; she’s always worn gold earrings, and for special occasions, she’d wear a gold chain or a bracelet without any trouble at all.
Interestingly enough, around the age of seven or eight, that whole allergy just seemed to vanish. She’s going through puberty now, and she can wear just about any jewelry or clothing, regardless of what metals are mixed in, without a single complaint.
