I gave it a shot, but I'm not a fan of how it converts the AVI into DivX; I really wanted to keep it as an AVI. I'll try some other options instead. Thanks for the suggestions.
Is there a program out there that can hardcode subtitles directly into a video file? Basically, I want to take an .avi movie that doesn't have external .srt files and bake the subs right in. What I'm looking for is that "burned-in" look—kind of like when you record a show on a DVR and the subtitles are part of the video itself, so they stay there and can't be turned off.
I finally tracked down the driver. Just when I was about to lose my cool and throw in the towel, there it was, and now everything is up and running. It’s definitely a bit slower browsing than when I'm on an Ethernet connection—which makes sense—but it still feels a little sluggish to me. Anyway, the main thing is that it works. Thanks a ton for the help.
My bad on the image size; I uploaded it via Tapatalk and didn't realize it was such a massive file. Now I can't even edit the post.
Anyway, I went through all those drivers from your last two links, and none of them worked. I'll try testing the others from your first link a bit later.
I sent a message to my contact in China asking for the specific drivers, but since it's Friday, I probably won't hear back until Monday.
I picked up this little antenna; http://www.ebay.com/itm/300Mbps-USB-...item43d68bd473
It didn't come with a driver CD or anything. I plugged it into my laptop and, surprisingly, the system recognizes it, but when I try to let Windows handle the driver installation automatically, it can't find anything. I've been trying to Google some drivers to get it running, but no luck so far—it just won't work. Any advice?
Just to test things out, I plugged it into my desktop running Windows 7 too. The same thing happens: it's recognized, but Windows can't install the drivers on its own.
I tried installing the ATI drivers for my graphics card, but I kept hitting an error. I even tried some other versions, but it was the same story, so I figured I'd just deal with it later—even though I made sure to download the exact drivers meant for this specific laptop.
As for the USB port, absolutely nothing happens when I plug something in. It’s like there isn't even a device connected at all.
I just finished a fresh install of Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the disc. My WLAN adapter should be arriving soon.
So, I've got Windows installed along with the drivers, but the computer won't even acknowledge my USB stick when I plug it in. I tried to Google some drivers, but I haven't had any luck finding anything useful. When I check the Device Manager, this is what I'm seeing:
I just picked up this Dell Latitude, and it's running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. I'm having some trouble getting online via Wi-Fi. I'm not even sure if this machine actually has a built-in wireless card or if I'll need to go out and buy a USB adapter (any tips on how to check that?) There's a Wi-Fi icon on the F2 key, but when I hit FN + F2, nothing happens at all. There's also some kind of little window/indicator on the back of the chassis labeled for wireless.
I did some searching on Google, thinking I should check the Device Manager to see if a wireless adapter is listed and perhaps disabled, but I can't find anything related to a wireless network there. The Windows Wireless Network Setup Wizard shows up in the Control Panel, but when I run it, it only gives me two options for setting up a network—either via USB or manual configuration. I tried the manual route, but it just spits out a printout of my network settings.
Looking under network connections, it looks like the previous owner left behind two dial-up connections and one LAN setup. I've tried Googling the specific specs for this laptop, but I can't find any mention of wireless capabilities anywhere.
I've got this old relic, an Apple PowerBook, and I'm running into a bit of an issue. When I lift the screen, it stays in whatever position I set, but there’s a lot of "play" or looseness in the hinge. It wasn't doing this before. I have no idea how to tighten the hinges. I just can't get to them. I tried popping off the plastic bezel around the display, but all I found were two screws holding the panel to the casing, so that didn't help at all. From the outside, the hinges are covered by a chrome trim piece, but I haven't been able to pry it off. Anyone have any ideas? Here's a photo of what I'm looking at
I was thinking of something like this The one to the right of the yellow fuzzy ball—you know, the little sphere with the colorful feathers sticking out? I'm pretty sure I actually got one just like that from a racquet set I bought once.
I'm trying to track down those specific shuttlecocks on eBay—the ones with the actual feathers sticking out of the base. They fly so much better, but I keep running into nothing but the basic plastic ones online... I’m not looking to drop a ton of cash on them since I don't play badminton that often; it's mostly just for fun. I'd love to just grab a pack of the feathered ones from eBay because I remember how great they flew when I used them a few years back. I checked out those links above, but I'd really prefer to just order through eBay so they can be shipped straight to my house.
After leaving my computer idle for just a few minutes, it logs me out automatically. Then, as soon as I move the mouse, I’m hit with the password prompt again. This has never happened before—any idea how I can disable this?
Why can't I edit the artist, album title, or other details in the song properties settings? I used to be able to do this on Windows XP without any issues. EDIT: My bad, I got a bit mixed up. Also, does anyone know what's going on with this issue regarding hibernation?
Is there a way to skip the profile selection screen when I wake the PC from hibernation? Right now, I have to manually pick my profile—even though it’s the only one I use—before I can actually get to my desktop.
I managed to sort this out like this: Once I went into my settings and enabled hidden files, I found the AppData folder under C: -> Users -> (My Username). I just went in there and cleared out about five pieces of junk left over from Magic ISO. Basically, I was trying to mount Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas using it, but Magic ISO would freeze on me every single time. I ended up having to kill the process through Task Manager repeatedly, and it kept happening. All those failed attempts were hogging space. After cleaning it up, I freed up about 15 GB.
Benjamin King2 said:Did you make sure to toggle the setting to show system and hidden files? You should see pagfile.sys and hyberfile.sys right in the C: drive root (assuming hibernation isn't turned off). Also, take a look at your System Restore and Recycle Bin settings; by default, they tend to hog a lot of disk space.
Enabled or disabled? I turned on the option to view hidden files, but I'm still not seeing those pagfile.sys or hyberfile.sys files in the C: root.
How do I actually disable hibernation? And where can I check the settings for System Restore and the Recycle Bin? Sorry, I'm not exactly a pro with Windows 7; I always found Windows XP much more intuitive.
Douglas Garcia52 said:just grab CCleaner and run it on your system; you'll be surprised how much it cleans up. 😉
Thanks, but it didn't really move the needle. I'm still missing about 20 GB. 🤷 All I did today was install some webcam drivers, wipe Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from my E drive, and then try to reinstall it using Magic ISO. But Magic ISO kept freezing on me, so after a few failed attempts, I just used Daemon Tools to get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back onto the E drive. That's literally everything. I have no clue where those 20 GB went. I never had anything like this happen back when I was using Windows XP.
Yesterday and today I had about 40 GB of free space on my C: drive, but now, out of nowhere, I'm down to 23GB? I haven't installed anything new. When I check the C: partition, the Desktop folder is taking up 12GB, yet there aren't even five icons on my actual desktop, and I've already emptied the Recycle Bin.
