Commuting to work by bike in Cycling ·
Ronald Diaz said:Quick question for all you daily commuters out there who ride bikes to work. What's your move when it starts pouring? Do you break out the raincoat or just leave the bike at home? Are you one of those people who actually pedals through the rain?
I'm thinking about making the switch to biking to my job pretty soon, so I was wondering—especially since the weather here seems to change every five minutes between sunny spells and sudden showers.

Honestly, if I see rain in the forecast, I just hop on the bus or the subway.
Otherwise, I’ll head out on foot, and if things get wet, I’ll just pop open an umbrella.😁
For those annoying little drizzle days, I always keep a poncho tucked away in my backpack,
but most of the time, I'd rather just pull over somewhere and wait for the downpour to pass. I really don't feel like battling traffic in the rain, mostly because drivers in Cleveland tend to lose their minds whenever the roads get slick.🤣

This is such a fascinating topic; I’ve gone through all the posts and picked up some really solid advice.
I actually just started commuting by Biker this spring, ever since I moved. My ride to work involves a bit of a 1.9 miles downhill stretch 😉 so, in those 10 minutes, I don't even break a sweat properly. I have to change at the office (that's where I keep my work clothes), use some wet wipes, and throw on some deodorant. Since I deal with clients every single day, I need to look sharp and smell great, right? :-)
I just tuck my Biker into a small storage room near the restroom.

For the first year, I actually walked to work because I was honestly intimidated by those steep hills on the way back. But after spending a whole year building up my stamina through walking, hitting the pool, hiking, and stuff like that, I finally worked up the nerve to hop on a Biker, and wouldn't you know it? That hill doesn't feel nearly as daunting anymore 🙂 (for my friends from Cleveland, let's just say it's like going from the Pyramid to Mr. Vežica 😁 ). It takes me about 20 minutes to get home.
Sure, by the time I get home, I'm soaked through with sweat, but I really don't mind.

I carry everything in a little cycling backpack with a ventilated back system and all that. Honestly, though, I’d probably be drenched even without the pack—that's just how my metabolism works 🙂

All in all, it's been a pretty eye-opening experience 👍
