As you already know, myositis or even rhabdomyolysis are possible side effects of statins, but the odds are slim if you're taking them alone. That risk bumps up if they're paired with fibrates. However, simvastatin has proven to be incredibly safe in numerous studies—take that major Mayo Clinic study involving over 4,000 patients, for example. They were all on simvastatin because their high cholesterol put them at risk for heart disease, which is something you can also help prevent through exercise. So, moderate physical activity isn't a danger, but the real question is defining "moderate." It's highly individual. My advice? Don't go overboard at the gym, but definitely keep moving.

Well, I guess that's how I'll try to manage. Hopefully, I won't end up needing dialysis...
Man, life is stressful...
Thanks again, take care!
Hello?!
Is anyone out there?
Sam Hall15?

🙂

🙂
Started taking simvastatin—LDL is at 4.25; HDL is 1.0; total cholesterol is 5.6 (slightly odd numbers, but okay enough)
By the way, three months of dieting didn't move the needle.
Here’s what I’m actually worried about: taking simvastatin carries a (slight) risk of rhabdomyolysis, which can lead to life-altering kidney damage. Does intense physical activity—specifically hitting the gym hard—increase the likelihood of developing rhabdo?

On another note (optional 🙂 ):
Myopathy and rhabdomyolysis (general muscle damage) usually show up clearly through pain and weakness, which means you really need to call a doctor immediately. But what if I mistake those symptoms for the standard muscle soreness you get when starting a new gym routine? It's not like I can go running to the lab every few days just to check my CK (creatine kinase) levels...
What has your experience been like, and what did your doctors advise?

Third thing: I don't hit the sack until around 5:00 AM, but I eat dinner around 10:00 PM, and the instructions say to take simvastatin `in the evening or after dinner`. So, when should I actually take it?

Thanks in advance for any insight.👍
