Either way, if you're picking something up like this, I’d definitely suggest bringing
a few CDs along with you so you can test them out on all those different HI-Fis to hear how they actually sound!!!
Anyway, just speaking from my own experience—I've owned quite a few of these setups over the years—
if you end up going for a mini-system, I’d say check out AIWA or KENWOOD, since I think they have the best sound quality. Honestly, SONY is kind of a joke when it comes to
these systems because their speakers are pretty terrible.
If you decide to build a setup piece by piece instead, the speakers are easily the most important thing for getting good sound. QUADRAL and JBL are awesome, and you can sometimes find JBL at a really good price.
Also, make sure the CD player supports MP3 if you can, otherwise you might regret it later on.
METAL IN GENERAL
1. METALLICA - M.O.P. (honestly, still an unbeatable album for me. even if you don't usually dig them, this one's top tier regardless of taste. everything is just perfect—the riffs, the melodies, the songwriting... every single track has its own insane vibe)
2. Slayer - Show No Mercy (not gonna say much here 😁 , just pure, raw metal)
3. CARCASS - Heartwork (super well-written, killer musicianship, and the production is spot on)
4. EMPEROR - in The Nightside Eclipse (this record just radiates pure negative energy)
5. Morbid Angel - Domination (my favorite by far, even if critics didn't totally get it at the time)
BLACK METAL
1. EMPEROR - Eclipse ...
2. HADES - The Dawn of Dying Sun
3. IMMORTAL - Pure Holocaust
4. BURZUM - Hvis lyset tar oss

DEATH METAL/GRINDCORE
1. Morbid Angel - Domination
3. TERRORIZER - World Downfall
3. MORGOTH - Odium
4. Vital Remains - Forever Underground 5. Death

Honestly, if I actually listened to music critics, I’d probably toss 90% of my collection in the trash. Back when I was a newbie and didn't know any better, I used to rely on them way too much. There were times I'd buy a CD because the reviews were glowing, only to listen to it and think, "Man, both this band and this critic suck." 😁
Seriously though, it shouldn't be okay for certain critics to weigh in on just any genre. I've seen some reviews of metal bands lately...
...where these guys clearly have zero clue what style the band even plays. They'll mislabel them as something completely different, yet they still feel entitled to give
their "expert" take and influence everyone reading their stuff.
Bottom line: if you don't know what you're talking about, just stay in your lane! 😉
