When I brought this up with my doctor, he basically brushed it off, saying it wasn't a big deal and told me to just come back in 6 months for another liver checkup. I've already got a hemangioma on my liver, so I'm already doing these follow-ups every 6 months with new lab work anyway.
Gamma-glutamyl transferase: it's a membrane enzyme found in the liver, sure, but also in the kidneys, pancreas, intestines... stuff like that.
It basically tracks how metabolites move through cell membranes. Honestly, these tests can have an error margin of up to 20%. A significant spike means there's cell or membrane damage. But look, with a diagnosed hemangioma and a GGT around 80, you aren't looking at anything acute or terrifying, especially since you're already being monitored every 6 months. Your doctor is giving you solid advice.
