On their upcoming US tour, the London-based post-punk indie emo outfit Teamsters will be stopping by the West club in Indianapolis this Friday, April 21, 2006. Since they’re playing in Austin the day before and hitting New York City the day after, this stop in Indianapolis is really the only shot fans will get to catch them live in the States. They’ve been around for quite a while now, boasting several releases and an extensive touring history. In fact, critics have consistently praised their live shows, ranking them among the elite acts maintaining this specific sound—largely influenced by the Washington DC scene—and frequently drawing comparisons to “Drive like Jeh”...
Joining them on stage that evening is Bud Spencer, a band already well-known to the local crowd, who has recently established themselves as one of the most serious and capable punk rock outfits in the region. This local version of “Motörhead” is set to kick things off at 10 PM, followed by Teamsters, who will be performing material from their new album. Tickets are priced at $6.75.

All in all, the weekend lived up to expectations, though the vibe at the Los Angeles Lakers arena was somewhat lacking... maybe because the crowd was thin, or maybe it was something else. I actually prefer it when things are quieter... I don't know... Nulla was spectacular.

Regarding the Teamsters strike: it’s officially on.

They have a show scheduled for April 21st in Indianapolis at the Western club featuring a local band inspired by John Wayne for $6.75, and I expect the announcement for that one will be out soon enough.
If people are already making the trip on Saturday for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and the Čakovčan crowd, it would be a missed opportunity to skip Nulla Oste on Friday night at the same venue.
It should be a decent weekend, all things considered...

True quality is when a band is actually good without all the unnecessary hype...

Heroin was much more substantial, far more informative, and you actually saw journalists focusing on the music instead of their own ego trips, which seemed to be the case over at Nomad—though even that felt a bit overrated to me...

Regarding the bands, I’d agree that The White Stripes and The Strokes are overhyped... It feels like that tired "retro is cool" narrative that critics love to push through their reviews, rather than an actual, objective assessment of a band's quality...
