It feels like the balance of power in college sports is shifting faster than anyone can keep up with. I worry that the pure spirit of the game is getting buried under all this new money and influence. Do you guys think the focus is shifting too far away from the actual competition?
I seem to be encountering a persistent issue whenever I attempt to connect my PC to my TV via an HDMI cable. While the video signal appears perfectly fine, there is absolutely no audio coming through the television speakers. I have already attempted to use a spare cable borrowed from a friend, but the result was identical, which leads me to believe the cable itself is likely functioning as intended.
I have spent quite a bit of time scouring various forums and troubleshooting sites, yet I haven't found a solution that works. It is possible that the system is simply struggling to determine which audio output should take precedence. I believe I have an AMD HDMI output listed along with the sound card settings in the Control Panel, though I am merely speculating at this point, as I really ought to sit down at my desk to verify the exact terminology under the sound settings menu.
Interestingly, when I plug headphones directly into the computer, the audio works without issue; however, once those headphones are disconnected, the sound fails to transition to the TV.
Everything was functioning flawlessly immediately after I purchased the cable, but then, quite out of nowhere, the audio just vanished.
I am currently considering picking up a GTX 285.
The primary complication, however, is that my current rig is rather dated; I'm running an AMD 2.3, about a gig of RAM, and I believe the power supply is somewhere around 400W, though I can't say for certain since I am currently at work (I will provide an update later).
In any case, I suppose the real question is whether investing in such a card actually makes sense given my existing hardware configuration.
I had intended to just build an entirely new PC, but I don't plan on pulling the trigger until the spring, mostly due to the current pricing of hard drives and, frankly, my own budget constraints.
My goal would be to play titles like the newer PES, GTA 4, and the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series—specifically MW 1, 2, and 3, or whatever else is available.
I am in need of some advice
My graphics card, a GeForce FX 5600, has finally given up on me.
The rest of the machine is quite dated as well—an AMD 2.1 system with 1.5 GB of RAM, which I believe was purchased about five years ago.
Since I assume finding this exact same model won't be particularly easy, I suppose I should ask: what would be the closest older card that might actually function with this setup and still be available for purchase somewhere?
And one more thing, I wonder if it is even worth my time to go out and buy an old graphics card at all.
