Does anyone else feel like we’re living in an era where everything has to be a massive, multi-day production just to exist?
I was looking at my schedule for the upcoming month, and it feels like there's a constant stream of "pre-season" hype, press junkets, and televised hype cycles for basically every major league. It used to be that you just showed up on Saturday, watched the game, and that was that. Now, it feels like the buildup is just as long—if not longer—than the actual season itself.
I get that the money is huge and the marketing is necessary, but sometimes it feels like a lot of noise just to sell us on things we already know are going to happen. It's hard to keep the excitement genuine when we're being bombarded with scheduled "big moments" for weeks before a single whistle even blows.
Am I just being a cynic, or do you guys feel like the constant media spectacles are actually draining the hype rather than building it?
Lokomotiv Moscow vs. Inter Miami @1.70If Lokomotiv pulls this off, they’re sitting pretty in second. As for Inter? Honestly, they’re the absolute last squad in the league with any real shot at staying up... actually, scratch that, maybe they don't have a shot at all. They know it too. They even swapped out their manager recently, but let’s be real—it hasn't exactly turned things around. It's been pretty bleak.
Kramaric to score anytime @2.20
Belenenses vs. Vitoria Guimaraes (9:00 PM) Pick 1 (2.20)
This one’s a US Open Cup matchup. The home side is currently sitting pretty at the top of the second division, and honestly, they're a lock for promotion to the big leagues next season. Because of that, this game feels like a massive statement opportunity—especially since they're hosting a top-tier MLS side. These guys have been absolute monsters at home this year, rocking a 15-1-0 record. Plus, their fan base is legendary; they show up loud and proud every single time. In my mind, the home team owes it to those fans to pull off a win as a little thank-you for riding with them. On the flip side, the visitors are dealing with some shaky depth in their backline, and word on the street is they've got some internal drama going on behind the scenes. I think the home attackers are going to feast on those mistakes.
USA - Scotland (1.60) 1
(2.60) f2
Scotland's manager, Gordon Strachan, is staring down a massive headache ahead of this showdown against the "Americans," mostly because he’s heading into a stadium in Chicago with basically zero options up front. He’s looking at a roster where he might only have one healthy striker to work with. After that heartbreaking collapse against Wales, Steven Fletcher headed straight back to Sunderland to get his ankle looked at.
To make matters worse, Kenny Miller is also a huge question mark thanks to some knee issues. Strachan has been sweating over Ross McCormack and James Forrest for a while now too, which leaves him with nothing but Blackburn's Jordan Rods to lead the charge. The coach is reportedly eyeing a call-up for QPR’s James Mack just to plug the hole.
And honestly? The nightmare doesn't end there. The squad is absolutely gutted. They've lost Robert Snodgrass to a suspension, and both captain Gary Caldwell and Celtic's Charlie Mulgrew are nursing knocks from that scrap with Wales. Throw in Jamie Morrison being out on injury, and you've got a team that's missing its literal heartbeat.
Look, if Fletcher isn't on the pitch, they're essentially toothless. Meanwhile, the Americans are itching to make up for that embarrassing loss at MetLife Stadium in front of their home crowd...
6:30 PM Pittsburgh Riverhounds - Bluegrass United - f2 (2.80)
I’m calling it now: a massive blowout for Pittsburgh. They’re fighting for their lives to stay in the league, and honestly, they proved they’ve got the teeth for it last week when they
absolutely demolished second-place St. Louis City in an away game, winning 7-1. Now they’re back on home turf facing bottom-of-the-barrel Bluegrass United. This is the perfect setup for three points, especially since they already handled these guys 3-0 on the road earlier this season. 😉
5:00 PM Phoenix Rising - Budapest FC - 1 (2.10)
Phoenix is coming off a total slaughter of Ujpest, winning 6-0 on the road. Meanwhile, their opponents have been playing like absolute garbage lately. They dropped two straight in the cup against Győr (2-0 and 1-0), choked in the League Cup against Pécs (3-2 and 3-3), and just got embarrassed at home by Videoton, losing 4-0. My only fear is that Phoenix spent all their emotional energy crushing Ujpest and might be a little too gassed to do it again. 😁
8:00 PM FC Oss - Sparta Rotterdam - 2 (1.65)
It’s pretty obvious that Sparta Rotterdam—who are currently sitting at the top of the table—is going to feast on this matchup.
03/02/12 USL FC Oss Sparta Rotterdam 1 : 5
10/08/04 USL FC Oss Sparta Rotterdam 1 : 2
11/14/03 USL FC Oss Sparta Rotterdam 0 : 4
05/09/03 USL FC Oss Sparta Rotterdam 1 : 2
8:45 PM TNS - Prestatyn Town - Over 3.5 Goals (1.85)
The home team winning is a total lock here. I’m mostly just crossing my fingers that the visitors manage to sneak one past the keeper. They usually find the back of the net when they travel—often scoring 2 or 3—but they also tend to give up even more than they score. Expect fireworks. 😉
goldenwalker42 said:How realistic is it to expect Dinamo Chicago to pull an upset against Dynamo Kyiv tomorrow? Let’s be real here—Dinamo can't hold their own against any Champions League heavy hitter in any single department. Not technically, not tactically, not physically. You won't even have that home-field advantage or that electric atmosphere to lean on... everything points to a blowout win for the visitors!
But... here's the thing: this game is pretty much a nothing-burger for the visiting squad. They’ve already locked in their spot in the Europa League, and this is basically their last match before they head out on vacation until January 10th! Plus, they didn't even bring their heavy hitters to town, including their captain. It makes you wonder how much Dynamo Kyiv actually gives a damn about winning tomorrow. Is a win bonus or grabbing a better seed for the Europa League draw really enough to make them grind on the pitch?
I wouldn't be shocked if Dinamo just aims for a "decent result"—meaning they grab a goal or maybe sneak a point—because playing a clean 2 or even chasing a handicap feels way too risky given the circumstances. Then again, the Ukrainians aren't total cowards either; they probably won't sell out their reputation by getting embarrassed at the "impenetrable fortress" of Maksimir.
Bottom line: Dinamo vs. Dynamo, X2. Current odds are 1.25 on SS; hoping for 1.30 in the super offer tomorrow.
Thoughts?
If Dynamo Kyiv wins, they'll secure a top seed in the Europa League...
Portland Thorns - Portland Thorns 1 1,75
The Portland Thorns are basically a powerhouse in the NWSL right now, and honestly, it’s about time they snagged their first home win of the season. They couldn't ask for a better matchup than playing against the Portland Thorns. Those guys have been struggling hard on the road—three away games, three straight losses, and a goal differential of 0:4 that looks pretty rough. To make matters worse, they’re absolutely gutted by injuries; they're missing seven key players: Boeing, Salomon, M'Madi, Govou, Kon, Cambon, and A. Angoula...
Utah vs. Dallas at 1.80? Are you kidding me right now?
