I was watching some sports commentary earlier and it got me thinking about how much we love a "miracle" story. Every time a team or a person goes from being the laughingstock of the league to suddenly being a contender, the media goes absolutely wild with the superlatives. "Greatest ever," "most impressive turnaround," "unprecedented."
Don't get me wrong, I love an underdog story as much as the next person. There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing a group that everyone wrote off suddenly start winning. It feels like justice for the skeptics. But lately, it feels like the hype machine cranks itself up to eleven the second a mediocre team gets a lucky streak.
I find myself wondering if we're actually celebrating the talent and the hard work, or if we're just addicted to the drama of the sudden climb. Is it a genuine shift in momentum, or are we just projecting a movie script onto real life because it makes for better TV?
Do you guys think we overhype these "sudden glory" moments, or is the hype well-deserved when a program actually finds its footing?
