Does preseason actually matter anymore?

I was looking at some upcoming schedules earlier, and it got me thinking about how much weight we put on these summer exhibition tours. I know everyone gets hyped up when the team lands in the States, but half the time it feels like it's more about the marketing deals and selling jerseys than it is about actual tactical preparation.
I remember years ago, preseason felt more organic, like a way to build chemistry before the real grind started. Now, with the constant travel and the commercial obligations, it feels like the players are just being shuffled around for the cameras. It’s hard to tell if these summer stints actually help a new manager implement their vision, or if it’s just a glorified vacation with a bit of running thrown in.
Do you guys think these massive international tours actually help build squad cohesion, or is it just a cash grab for the clubs?
