The constant cycle of new hardware and DLC

Is it just me, or does it feel like we're constantly being teased with new mechanics that require a hardware upgrade just to fully enjoy them? I love the idea of deep exploration, but the timing always feels a bit predatory. Does anyone else feel like the "next gen" hype is getting exhausting?
