Living with Long COVID symptoms in Health ·
It has been exactly one year since I contracted COVID-19. While my initial bout was relatively mild, I am still battling the lingering effects of long COVID. I have spent a significant amount of money on private specialists and undergone countless tests, yet they have all come up empty. My condition fluctuates; there is no steady improvement, just good days and bad. The symptoms have been incredibly diverse. Immediately following the infection, I dealt with tingling sensations in my hands and feet, along with muscle cramps. I experienced intense pain in my joints and the front of my lower legs, just above the ankles. I also suffered from night sweats so severe it felt as though someone were dousing my head and neck with water every single night. Then there were blood pressure issues and heart palpitations. At one point, I had chest pains so sharp it felt as if someone were using a voodoo doll to stab me in the chest. In one particular month this year, I truly believed my end was near. Fortunately, those acute episodes seem to have resolved themselves for now. What remains is a persistent sense of weakness and fatigue, along with some late-appearing symptoms like chest fluttering and occasional tremors in my fingers. I also experience localized pain in my arm bends—almost as if a vein or the tip of a muscle is aching—and a persistent pain in the front of my neck. Before COVID-19, I never suffered from any of this. As I mentioned, I have consulted every specialist available. I have had approximately 80 different blood tests, and every single one has come back perfect. Next month, I am scheduled to head to Jordan for spirometry and diffusion testing, though I suspect the results will be equally inconclusive. Regarding my neck pain, I try to sleep on my back—which I absolutely detest—and I use an orthopedic pillow, but even that provides little relief. Now, I am debating whether it is worth throwing more money at an ultrasound of my neck to check my thyroid or lymph nodes. My family tells me not to waste the cash because everything will likely turn out fine regardless. They insist that time is the only true healer 🙂, but honestly, I am reaching my breaking point.
