Thanks for the assist, everyone. Finally got that issue with the watch case sorted out...

Well, I've got the disc right here!
I’m wondering if I could actually pull this off using an eSATA enclosure that has its own external power supply. I’ve got one sitting around from back in the day when I used it for my old DirecTV receiver.
If I pop the disc into the enclosure from my old laptop and then hook it up to the new one, would that work?

Rachel Brooks63 said:Don't go hacking away at it if you don't actually know what you're doing. Just set that junker laptop aside for now. Once things settle down and we can get back to normal life, grab both the old machine and the new one and take them to any local computer repair shop. For the price of a cheap HDD enclosure, some pros who actually know their stuff will just handle the whole thing for you.

Thanks for the advice! Honestly, I feel like I could probably tackle this myself—or at least, I’d really love to try so I can actually learn something for once. As far as pulling the drive out and popping it into an external case goes, I think I can manage that part. My only real worry is whether I'll be forced to format the disk afterward. If that happens, I'm totally screwed.

And one more thing—how am I supposed to figure out which HDD enclosure I actually need? Is it just a matter of checking if it's 2.5" or 3.5", or am I totally off base here?

Thanks for the help. Quick question though: once I swap the hard drive into the new case, is it going to force me to reformat everything again? And if it does, is there any kind of workaround to bypass that?

I could really use some help here. Basically, my HP laptop just bit the dust—motherboard is completely fried...
The main issue is I’ve got a ton of photos on there that I desperately need to save. Does anyone know the easiest way to go about this, or even if it's actually possible at this point?
I have another laptop that’s working fine, so I was wondering if there's any way to link them up so I can pull those files off the dead one and onto the new one? Thanks in advance.
