Hey, so I’ve been falling down the rabbit hole on YouTube watching all this stuff about mechanics and robotics, and I stumbled upon this thing called a DC motor—which seems to be used for pretty much everything. Right now, I’ve just got a couple of tiny Electric Motors lying around, but they’re pretty weak; I doubt they can handle more than 2 or 3V. I heard you can scavenge an Electric Motor out of old CD players or cassette decks, so I’m thinking about hunting some down to rip apart. Since I’m definitely going to break something along the way, does anyone actually know their stuff and can tell me what kind of voltage those DC motors in CD drives usually run at? I could really use some details because I'm serious about getting into this, but I want to stay safe—no messing around with 110V outlets, just sticking to batteries up to 9V or maybe 12V max. THANKS FOR THE HELP 😵

It’s totally normal for your fans to ramp up to full speed right when you hit the power button, but that should only last about ten seconds before they settle down. Just hold each fan still for a second—you know, put a finger on the center hub to stop it from spinning—and you'll figure out which one is actually making that noise.
Thanks, I'll check it out and let you know what's up 😁
Hey, so about 7 or 8 months ago I put together a custom rig, picking up parts one by one until I had a full build: an Intel Core i7-3770K, a RADEON HD 7770, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX, and a 550W PSU. Everything ran perfectly fine for maybe 3 or 4 months after I finished it, but then out of nowhere, whenever I boot it up, this insane buzzing starts—like, loud, obnoxious buzzing, almost sounds like something is physically catching on something. To make matters worse, that red warning light next to the green one on the case, right by the power button, starts flickering too. Basically, the buzzing kicks in regardless of whether it was just sleeping or totally shut down, and it slowly dies down until, after maybe five minutes, things quiet back down to a normal level. What the hell is going wrong here? Is there any way to fix this or even just tone down the overall noise? This thing is way too loud, probably due to the components, but if anyone actually knows how to deal with this, let me know 🤔
