Austin Stewart2, I am so sorry.
Rose, it was honestly so hard for me to read what you wrote. It sounds like life has been incredibly cruel to all of you. I truly hope from the bottom of my heart that you find the strength for yourself, just like you did for your husband. I really believe everything is going to be okay—it has to be. You just have to hold onto that faith.
Hey everyone, I haven't been around this thread for a while because my dad passed away just a month and a half after his diagnosis. We laid him to rest yesterday.
I honestly don't know what to say, other than thank you to everyone here. I haven't encountered this much humanity and warmth in one place in a long time.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you who are so selfless in wanting to help strangers and provide comfort and hope when people need it most.
I'm going to miss him terribly. Everything happened way too fast, and I still haven't fully processed everything that's going on. I guess it was just meant to be this way.
I wish you all nothing but the best in life. Please, keep fighting. My father never gave up until his very last day—he was a true fighter. You always have to keep fighting and keep hoping.
Unfortunately, my dad's condition is just getting worse. He finished his ten radiation sessions, but instead of improving, things took a sudden turn for the worst. His right arm has completely failed him, and his right leg is likely next. Since he got home, his forehead and the area around his ears have been severely burned—he looks like he spent hours under an intense American summer sun. I wonder, could that be a side effect from the radiation?
Over the last few days, everything has been declining. He's having more frequent outbursts and barely sleeps at all. Last night, my mom actually had to call 911 just to get him calmed down.
(He has lung cancer with brain metastases).
Does anyone here have experience with this? How does it progress from here? What should we be looking out for?
We were really hoping he’d recover from the radiation soon so he could move on to chemotherapy for the lungs, but will they even consider chemo if he's in this state? He’s even reached the point where he needs diapers now.
My mom is handling this alone most of the time. I make it over every other day, but it's getting harder and harder on her because she’s just so sleep-deprived.
I honestly don't know what lies ahead for us.
Up until now, I managed to hold onto some hope, but now... it's just pure fear and dread.
If he's even up for it tomorrow, he has an appointment with the oncologist.
I'm not sure if they'll decide to keep him in the hospital or let him come home.
As far as the lungs go, he coughs occasionally and sweats quite a bit, but it doesn't seem as severe as the other issues.
The hardest part is how little he can speak. He can't control the right side of his body, and sometimes he just loses himself entirely, shouting and lashing out. It is heartbreaking to witness. 😢
My dad's cancer spread from his lungs to his brain, his bones, and his liver... 😢
The doctor says there isn't much time left.
I just can't wrap my head around it. Only a few days before things took a turn, he was bathing with us and going for walks. Now? He has to hold onto something just to move, he spends more time in bed than on his feet, and he's lost even more weight.
He’s still taking black seed oil every single day. I find myself constantly wondering if there's something else I can buy him—anything to help him regain even a little bit of strength. I'm terrified that once he's completely bedridden, that'll be the end. As long as he can still manage to stand up, it gives me hope that we'll have a little more time together.
Linda Patel21 said:My dear friends, I buried my wonderful dad today. It’s only been two months since his diagnosis—gallbladder cancer with metastases. We didn't even make it to chemotherapy; he wasn't a candidate for surgery, so they just placed a stent. Thankfully, he wasn't in pain, and until the very end, he truly believed he’d be out there planting an orchard. He struggled with confusion, high fevers, and losing his appetite. I tried so hard to grant him every single wish. I knew the end was near, but I still held onto hope. I knew it would be hard, but I never imagined it would feel quite like this... I miss him so much already. My heart is just aching. I wish we could have had just a little more time. To hug him again, rub his back, or even just have him give me one of those angry looks... anything. I haven't been on these forums for long, but I've met such wonderful, brave people here. I want to wish you all strength in your battles. Don't give up, and please, stay by your loved ones' sides until the very end. My days are just filled with sadness and tears, and then I try to remember the beautiful moments...
I am so sorry, 😢
My dad had his first round of radiation on the head this past Friday. During the day, he seemed fine, which really gave me a surge of optimism, but then I got the news this morning that he had a terrible night. He had intense headaches, was vomiting, and even lost consciousness once. 😢
I honestly don't know how to help with the nausea. I bought some cranberry juice for him to sip on for the next few days, and my mom is making him homemade chicken soup.
Ugh, this is only the first session, and there are nine more ahead of them.
My stomach just knots up whenever I think about what they're going through right now, especially since I can't be there with them.
mala30, I'm really glad to hear things are going so well for him over there. It sounds like he's finally seeing some real progress. Hopefully, it just keeps getting better from here on out, every single day.
It’s good to have that information. My only real worry is that he won't be staying at the hospital, but just coming in for his radiation sessions. I really hope they’ll be checking in on him every single day before the treatment starts. I truly hope they do. 🙂

I can only share what I've gone through personally... they seem to handle it well. No headaches, blood pressure and sugar levels stay steady... today we're hitting an 8 out of 10 on the scale. All those little lapses and weird behaviors have finally settled back to normal (including that total disorientation, forgetting where things were put, losing track of the day or even what time it was...)
Thank you so much for this post, seriously, thank you!
Can anyone tell me what to look out for once my dad starts radiation on his head? Should I be bracing for nausea, fatigue, or anything else?
He’s actually doing pretty well right now. No pain at all. His appetite is solid, too. The only thing is he gets a bit confused about time and occasionally loses his sense of direction—left vs. right, you know? I assume those metastases are putting pressure on his brain. He’s on Dexamethasone and some other medication—we can't quite recall the name, but it doesn't seem to bother him much. Honestly, most of the time, he acts like he’s perfectly healthy.
What kind of things should I expect once the radiation kicks in? And is there any point in him taking something to boost his immune system?
Thank you all so much for sharing everything you know.
I’m still feeling pretty overwhelmed and honestly just in shock, but I’m trying my best to gather all the facts. Even with the grim outlook, I want to do everything within my power.
It seems like apricot kernels might actually be helpful, so we’re going to pick some up.
Right now, she's taking black seed oil—about 20 drops, three times a day.
My sister keeps bringing up resveratrol, but I’m having a hard time figuring out where to actually buy it.
It feels like every single day I learn something new about this adenocarcinoma. It’s more than I ever thought I’d have to process.😢
My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer a few days ago, and it’s already metastasized to his brain. The doctors aren't sugarcoating it—they say things look grim and he's nearing the end. We’re all in total shock right now. It’s hard even to think about searching Google when I don't even know where to begin, and honestly, I just don't have the strength.
We should have the specific diagnosis and the rest of the test results tomorrow, but they told us we need to get him to Los Angeles immediately—first for a few days of radiation on his head, and then back to our local hospital for chemotherapy.
There's one thing I'm wondering about—he’s a veteran. Are there any specific rights we have regarding emergency ambulance transport to the hospital in LA, or any priority for placement in certain wards?
They mentioned we might need to find private lodging because the hospitals are completely full.
Does anyone know if being a veteran gives him any kind of advantage or priority when it comes to getting a bed?
I'm not bringing this up to save money on a hotel or anything; it's just that he feels incredibly sick. And with this heatwave, I really don't know how he's going to manage walking from some random rental to the hospital for his radiation sessions.
If anyone knows anything at all, please, could you help me out?
