They won't be surprised, because there will always be enough fools willing to buy at these disgusting prices.

The US is a different beast entirely; it's a market where sheer scale can offset lower price points, and besides, those prices they quote are pre-tax...

I agree regarding the US... In fact, I just stopped by Instar and they just got a new 3070ti in for $2.25 !!! However, I've honestly never even heard of this specific card brand 😁

Maybe there is some hope that prices will dip a bit further. I'll wait until after New Year's to see if anything else drops before making a move; hopefully, they'll bring down the price on the 3080ti a little as well. 😛

velvetlynx3 said:Exactly. The standard operating procedure here is that they refuse to sell anything below the initial cost price, no matter what. They’d rather just scrap the stock than take a hit. If they picked up inventory at a specific price point, that’s the floor—maybe they’ll shave off a tiny percentage later, but that's it. That's why you see products sitting on shelves for years with those inflated original price tags.

They only drop to more reasonable levels once a fresh shipment arrives. And let's be honest, the initial margins are massive, often exceeding 30%...

It isn't like in the USA, where if a manufacturer drops their prices, everyone else follows suit because the manufacturer offsets the loss for the retailers...

Since I just laid that out myself, it's clear it's a losing situation on both sides. 😵

So while prices are trending down abroad, they just keep climbing here. It's ridiculous. 😁

Instar put a "DISCOUNT" tag on a 3080ti; it went from $1,000 to $900. Absolutely absurd.

Michael Hill6 said:I was browsing Newegg today and honestly, I was shocked to see the 3080ti priced at $1,200. I listed mine on eBay for $2167, and not a single person even reached out.

Everything on eBay is sitting right between $6,000 and $2333!!
It really makes you wonder about the state of our economy. It feels like prices never drop here, no matter how much demand dies down. I look at what people can afford overseas and realize we could buy two cards there for the price of just one here... 🤦

wanderingbison9 said:That sounds great, but I honestly don't have the patience for it...😁

If you look at my previous comments, you can see I was eyeing that card too. But then again, "only" 8 GB of VRAM and a PCIe x8 lane when I could pick up an RX 6700 with 10GB and x16 for $750 roughly... and even then, the RX 6700 doesn't make much sense if I can grab an RX 6700 XT for just a few dozen dollars more...

To be honest, when you compare the prices abroad to what we see here in the States, it makes me lose interest in buying anything at all (like a 3080ti— $3333). It feels like nobody is winning here. And the worst part is, they seem intent on keeping prices this high indefinitely...

velvetlynx3 said:That’s just how it works with professional software; you basically have to hand-pick specific drivers or versions... at least until they implement some hardware acceleration or better optimization... if that ever happens.

From what I can see, even NVIDIA cards—whether it's the 3060 Ti or the 3070 Ti—don't offer any real advantage here. 😉

Even looking closely, the professional-grade Radeon Pro and NVIDIA Quadro cards seem to be on equal footing. Compared to those, the RX 6950 XT is essentially 🙂

So, who is actually buying an RX 6950 XT?

wiredotter14 said:Why is the price difference bothering you? It's perfectly normal for different retailers to have different pricing; Best Buy or Micro Center might be the cheapest one this week, but that's just how retail works. The product itself is identical, straight from the manufacturer's packaging. If you receive the wrong item, you simply return it. We aren't talking about buying produce at a farmer's market here. 🙂

By the way, prices for the RTX 3000 series are a disaster right now. It looks like they've cleared out the inventory, but new stock isn't arriving fast enough. The AMD 6000 series is holding up okay, but generally speaking, we're facing a dry spell until the newer models force prices down.

P.S. Keep one thing in mind—streaming is essentially running at 60 FPS. Unless you absolutely need maximum frame rates for competitive esports settings, you can realistically use your 13600K to stream via the CPU in OBS. Many people do exactly this, and CPU encoding remains the highest quality option, though it will slightly impact your CPU performance. However, if you're using a mid-range card like a 6750XT, you'll likely hit a GPU bottleneck before you even notice.

So, an AMD card paired with CPU encoding is a solid choice, IMO. Plus, I've heard AMD encoding isn't nearly as bad as it used to be.

Yeah, looking at the RTX 3000 series, the prices are honestly ridiculous. It's a shame they haven't dropped them yet; I think it's better to wait for the next generation, as prices might dip then.
I'm thinking about getting the AMD RX 6950 XT gaming OC nitro +... I can't seem to find any decent threads about streaming, because everywhere I look, everyone seems to be talking about NVIDIA. ☕

wanderingbison9 said:Does that 2% discount at Futurait still apply to forum members, and how do I actually prove my membership when ordering online?

https://obsproject.com/forum/tags/amd/

If you just skim through the thread titles, things sound pretty apocalyptic at first glance... though, honestly, you have to take it all with a grain of salt. Naturally, the only people posting are the ones running into issues. I was recording a screen capture once using the AMD SW and everything worked perfectly fine, only to realize later that a damn Windows update had swapped out my AMD driver for its own version...

Then there's the whole issue of recording and streaming...
It seems like everywhere I look, there's some kind of problem, haha. 😁
And Nvidia's pricing is still a massive headache—especially looking at the 3070ti. $2.25 😵

velvetlynx3 said:I haven't been active for a while, but if I recall correctly, there aren't any major issues with streaming on AMD cards, especially nowadays... though the codec names and technical jargon can be a bit overwhelming. Someone from the group will probably clarify that for you soon...

I need to get my hands on an AMD card first before I can say for sure... 😉

They replied?

So, everything should run smoothly with the software and OBS...
Also, when comparing the 3070 Ti to the AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT, I watched some YouTube reviews suggesting the AMD card is significantly better, but still...

Alexander Moore67 said:Everyone giving you advice here has years of experience buying from established retailers. Most people find their experiences with Micro Center or Newegg to be excellent. Best Buy doesn't even come close to that level of service! Besides, if you’re determined to stick strictly to your own opinion, then you don't really need anyone's input... just do whatever you want....

Of course I have my own opinion, but when you're purchasing something brand new from a retailer, you should always ask around first.

What really concerns me is the price gap between Best Buy and Newegg.

You have the Speedster Merc, which is a solid 6800XT model available at Protis, and then there is this ASRock option over at ADM.

https://www.h2-shop.com/ASR-RX6800XT...m_medium=click

Both shops are fine. I haven't personally had any issues with ADM, even if they can be a bit confusing or overly opinionated at times. Ultimately, you are buying a single unit that comes with a manufacturer's warranty, and you have the right to return it within 14 days of delivery regardless of which shop you choose or your reason for doing so. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

In any case, these are better options than iBuyPower, eDigital, or those overseas shops that ship to the US.

ADM actually has the RX6800 for around $1533, which might offer a slightly better price-to-performance ratio depending on what your specific goals are.

Yeah, but I am also concerned about the AMD software. Thinking about streaming, I feel like I might run into some hurdles. Every stream I tune into seems to be running on NVIDIA. 🤔
As for the shop, I previously bought three computers from them via Instagram and have been genuinely satisfied so far. However, looking now, they don't even have a single 3070 Ti in stock that costs $1767; they only have the 3070 priced at $2133. I sent them a message asking if they will be getting more in stock, but they didn't seem to know—it feels like nobody knows what's going on there.

wanderingbison9 said:The performance jump would be substantial, anywhere from 2.5x to 4x depending on the specific task. That’s just how post-production works, but it's definitely a noticeable upgrade 😛. I've realized my RX 580 is starting to struggle with certain workflows, so I need to upgrade soon, though budgets and market prices are what they are right now. I'm not sure if there will be any price shifts before New Year's Day; that's my personal deadline since I need to start finalizing a major project right after
.
@Malic: Maybe ask Božo Petrov to hook you up... actually, never mind, Congress has adjourned and Božo is already back in Metković 😛 Jokes aside, I don't see why shipping a GPU from a city like Chicago to a place like Metković should be an issue 🤷.

It's the entire computer setup. My main concern is making sure nothing gets smashed or broken during transit, because we all know how careless people can be when handling packages and boxes 😁.

Yeah, I'll have to look into a few more options... I'm planning on doing some streaming and coding work too.
But so far, nobody has really given me any solid advice regarding the GPU—whether I should just hold off for another month to see if prices drop or 🕺
Also, the real question is whether prices will even go down at all. 😁

You aren't going to be able to overclock it on that B660. And honestly, without wanting to be rude, that motherboard isn't really meant for a processor like that. It has an 8+1+1 VRM setup. Good luck. I just don't understand people who drop $400 on a high-end CPU and then pair it with budget components.

Also, you should probably know that you need to flash the BIOS before you even turn the computer on to start messing around in the settings. Your only saving grace here is that Gigabyte board because it has the Q-Flash Plus button, which lets you update the BIOS without even having the CPU or other parts installed.

What do you mean I won't be able to overclock it?
I hear what you're saying, but that's not my main concern—the graphics card is what I'm actually worried about....

However, looking through various forums, I've seen quite a few negative comments. Some people even claim they received broken or used parts.🤔

Since I’m building a custom PC anyway, there’s really no reason not to go with the 13th Gen...
But I can't find the GAMING model anywhere; I looked everywhere and all I see is the Merc 319 version...
I'll probably just order through Micro Center... I'm not sure if there's a better deal out there in the US besides AMD, since I've heard mixed things about them.

Hi everyone, I'm currently putting together a PC build with a budget of around $1,700 for video editing, but I'm having a hard time deciding on a GPU.

Crucial P5 Plus SSD, 1TB
ASUS ROG Strix B660 with Corsair Vengeance RAM
G.Skill Trident Z Neo, 16GB
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G6, 850W
Intel Core i5-13600K

For the graphics card, I was leaning towards the NVIDIA RTX 3080 (XFX NVIDIA RTX 3080 Merc 319, 16GB)
but it still feels a bit out of my price range....
