Hello everyone. My father has just completed six cycles of chemotherapy following the Mayo Clinic protocol. Our next step is to get his latest blood work results and take those along with the chemo recommendations to meet with his oncologist. It is a relief that we can handle this in San Francisco to save on travel time...
Given that he is 78 years old—though he was quite the studious young man back in the day 😁—what kind of side effects should we be bracing for? Also, would it be wise to shave his head completely? He’ll end up looking like a total bald eagle with a beard... my poor dad...
Angela Wright and wiredotter75—thank you both for the positivity and for being here.

Dear everyone, Dad just got his appointment scheduled for July 3rd—I couldn't help the tears. He was already telling me how miserable he felt last night, convinced that nobody will take him seriously because of his age. 😢Keep your fingers crossed for us!
Dear forum members, my husband underwent surgery for Dukes C colon cancer on May 21, 2013, in Tampa. Following that, he was referred by his internist-oncologist to the Cancer Center of Miami to determine the next steps for his treatment plan. We picked up the referral and faxed over all the medical documentation on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. I even received verbal confirmation over the phone that everything had been received.
However, as of Monday, June 24, 2013, we still haven't heard anything regarding an appointment date. When I called the Center again to demand an explanation, I was told the specialist team hadn't even reviewed the files yet to assign a physician or a time slot. They basically told me that if nobody reaches out by Friday, June 28, then I should call them back. Of course, more waiting... My husband drove to the clinic yesterday just to check in person, and the woman at the counter repeated the exact same thing—they’ll call us next week. Does anyone here have experience dealing with such absurdly long waits for consultations and treatment scheduling? I feel completely powerless, though naturally, I can't let Dad see how much this is getting to me. What on earth should I do next? 🙂

It’s true... honestly, I am quite, quite—and I’m certainly no literary critic—positively surprised by this gesture, hoping the results turn out just as positive... What actually prompted me to join Reddit was reading through experiences regarding breast MRIs (I've read everything and seen the specific cases where they recommend them...). This is happening alongside my own stressful waiting period; unfortunately, I’ve been waiting nearly two weeks now just to get an appointment date at the Mayo Clinic for my father, who had surgery for colorectal cancer... but that is a different issue entirely... I suppose I’m mentioning it because the level of professional and human courtesy I’ve experienced here has been such a pleasant surprise, especially since I find myself calling the doctors almost daily regarding my dad... P.S. The nurse who called today was incredibly kind; she told me if I haven't heard back by Friday, I should call again because they are waiting for Dr. XY to review all the education files before assigning a slot... but again, that’s a whole other story... As for the crew from Brooklyn, a huge thumbs up to you all. I will definitely post the results once they come in, and if anyone actually has experience with breast MRIs, please, leave a comment below.

Dear Angela Wright — look, I’m not actually angry. It’s more that my reaction is coming from a place of fear, which is perfectly understandable... and let's be honest, fear is always an option. Of course I’m going... but frustration is just part of life, isn't it? 😁 And honestly, what was done deserves praise.... I truly believe everything is going to turn out fine.

Dear forum members, does anyone here have experience dealing with breast MRIs? To make a long story short, I had some suspicious findings on an initial scan, which led to a puncture biopsy. That result came back suspicious, so they recommended surgical removal and pathology. I went ahead with a core biopsy instead, and that one came back benign—just a B2 classification. My doctor told me to just wait four months for a follow-up ultrasound, but then out of nowhere, I get a call from the Mayo Clinic. Apparently, they couldn't reach a 100% consensus on whether everything was clear, and now they’re calling me in for a breast MRI just to rule out any lingering doubts. It didn't exactly charm me, but it certainly rattled me... has anyone else dealt with something similar? Thanks for any insight you can offer. 🤷
