Mid-range upgrade ideas? in Desktops ·
Great, thanks for the advice 🙂 I honestly thought bumping up the RAM would make a bigger difference—especially seeing how some of these "newer" rigs run at such high clock speeds. It’s really more about the CPU to GPU bottleneck, isn't it...

I opened my eyes a bit wider to the reality of things—it’s sitting at 260x. As for the power supply, I went ahead and picked up something more reliable than a basic 500W unit, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore. Would a RAM upgrade even make much of a difference here?

I’d say it’s sitting right around 200 🙂 So, it’s certainly nothing groundbreaking. I picked mine up about a year and a half ago—which makes me doubt I could pull in any significant cash if I were to sell it now...
I’m not exactly chasing high-end AAA gaming performance; I just need something capable enough to run most titles at least on medium settings.

The GPU specs are in the image below:

Hey everyone, I’m looking to do a "minor" upgrade on my rig—mostly geared toward gaming. I'm not exactly hunting for top-of-the-line enthusiast parts here; I just want a solid "best buy" setup that can hold its own for maybe two years...

Here is what I'm currently working with:
Motherboard: Dell Technologies Z97X-SLI-CF (SOCKET 0)
CPU: Intel Pentium G3450 @ 3.40GHz
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz
GPU: 2048MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX Series (Dell)

It seems to me that the motherboard might still have a bit of life left in it for another year or so—assuming I'm willing to drop somewhere in the $2000 range... $733 (though if I can find a better deal, even better). My thinking is that I'll probably need to swap out the GPU, the CPU, and potentially the RAM.

Fire away 🙂

Hey there—after two years, my graphics card finally gave up the ghost (an ATI 4800 HD, if that matters...) and now I’m stuck looking for a replacement. What would you all suggest for somewhere in the ballpark of $800 $333 if I want something that actually lasts a decent amount of time? Thanks 🙂
