GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I ended up picking up an XFX Radeon HD 6870.
My only issue now is people saying it needs two 6-pin connectors for power. Is that actually true?
I've got an EVGA 500 W unit which should be plenty, but I have no idea how I'm going to deal with those 2x6-pin requirements.

So, you're saying my CPU is basically junk now? Too old to even handle modern graphics cards?
Honestly, is there any point in swapping it out if it can still run cards that aren't quite as beefy as these?
I've spent all this time thinking my GPU was the bottleneck when the processor was actually the problem.😢

So, is the processor just not up to par? I don't really follow all this "technical jargon." Could you break down what a bottleneck actually means?

I need to pick up a new GPU. My current one, an AMD Radeon HD 4850, is basically ancient history. I want something that can actually handle Battlefield 3 on
High Settings.

Right now I'm running $0.57, but I'm stuck on what to upgrade to. Adding $100 shouldn't be an issue.
I don't care about noise. As for overheating, I just leave the side panel off my case.
My power supply is a Cooler Master 500 W.

A few people suggested I go with the MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II

How long is this card going to last me? Can it run games on medium settings for a while?

If you're willing to help out, hit me up on

I'm currently running an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX. It's ancient. I'm not even sure if it can handle Call of Duty: Battlefield on a High-end PC settings.
I'd much rather have an NVIDIA GeForce.
I'm willing to drop up to $667 because I want this thing to actually last for a bit after I buy it.
At least two years. I don't know much about GPUs, so I was hoping the people on this forum could point me in the right direction.
