Looks like a total disaster to me—it’s actually uglier than before. And honestly, the worst part? It feels like that bump on my nose is even BIGGER than what I started with...
Basically a total DISASTER—honestly, what was that doctor even doing??!!!!!!
They did the nose job—reshaping the bridge and narrowing it—but honestly? I don't see any difference at all...

For those of you who ended up with a flat nasal bridge—was yours actually straight right after the surgery, or what...?

Need help... anyone around?😕😕😕

rustygardener172 said:Are you even listening to yourself?! You took the mold off yesterday and now you're freaking out over absolutely nothing. I'm banning you from looking in the mirror for the first month... seriously. 😁

I told her the same thing—stop staring at the mirror so much... 😁

You don't have a choice—you just have to be patient. Just like all of us who went under the knife for a nose job...

Signed.

And one more thing... did you have the surgery at a hospital? It’s not exactly surprising that you don't know what they actually did to you... I didn't even know after my first surgery either...

Same thing happening to me. Though honestly, I have no idea what's going on right now—I didn't think she'd be going back under the knife for more cosmetic work when...🤔

In hospitals, nobody actually talks to you like a human being—not even close. They don't bother explaining anything, either. Most of the time, you aren't even a person to them... just another milk carton on a conveyor belt at a processing plant.
Shout out to the exceptions... they're pretty rare...

So now I'm the one with the defective product just because I was back on the treadmill again... lol... 🤣

Anyway, I'm finally back home. Can already tell this time around was different—less swelling, less bruising, and way less pain... or at least that's how it feels. I haven't even gotten the cast off yet, but looking at it, it seems like he went for an aesthetic fix too. I did manage to chat with the doctor briefly right before the surgery, but honestly, I still have no clue what he actually did to my nose. I'm just hoping he fixed the septum; as far as the look goes, I don't really care that much. My nose used to tilt to the right—the tip was basically crooked—so I think he straightened it out, but now it looks like it’s tilting to the left... 🤔 Maybe it’s because of the bandage—who knows... honestly, I don't really care. If you're one of those people struggling to breathe, just get it fixed. And hey, if you can make it look good aesthetically, even better, but trust me—being able to actually breathe is more important... so if anyone starts whining about the looks again, I might just have to break their nose lol. Just kidding.

Taylor Miller10, hang in there... 👍😬
Hannah Baker23 said:My cousin just had septoplasty surgery—and while she was at it, she used a connection through an aunt at the hospital to get them to smooth out her nose hump too... now I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this?
Is it actually possible for doctors to sneak in some aesthetic tweaks mid-procedure 😁

Hannah Baker23 said:Seriously, is nobody going to address my question about the correction?? :/

Same here—I had a deviated septum and a hump... I actually got mine done through a friend whose brother did cosmetic work for someone else, so he did mine too. 😁 😁

But look, you have to go in for a consultation and talk to the doctor first. Ask if they can handle the aesthetic side of things, mention who referred you, and request the combo. In those cases, they basically just write down that you had a broken nose and need it fixed cosmetically as well 😁 😁 at least that's how it worked for me...

Anyway, I'm heading back in for surgery tomorrow. Going to see how Taylor Miller10 😁 is doing... can't wait 👏... hoping I can finally breathe again... kisses everyone 😍
brightsurfer67 said:I just had my septum deviation surgery done—skipped the cosmetic stuff because they sexy like that 😁

Must be nice 😍

In the OR you have to be shirtless... I think girls aren't even allowed to wear bras, but you'll survive. You can keep the pajama bottoms and underwear on though

Yeah, and honestly, it’s probably not even an issue for us since the nurses prep us and cover us up later 🙂.....so ladies, don't worry, especially when your boyfriend tells you

You'll basically be living on straws and soft foods, because your nose hurts so much you can barely open your mouth

Same for me—that bandage under the nose was super annoying 🤣

Not gonna lie, the whole thing was pretty uncomfortable, but totally worth it since I can finally breathe properly. I'd do it all over again if I had to

Well, glad one of us can actually breathe now lol. My experience was fine, nothing embarrassing, but I still can't breathe, so I have to go back in 🙂

So look, if you're actually struggling to breathe, man up and just get this nonsense over with 😍and feel free to ask questions if you have any

I saved up 😬 but I have to go back in... 🙂

From my own experience, there was no pain during or after, hardly any bleeding, and pulling out the packing was basically painless... it's ridiculous :S

It's not like that for everyone. It depends on the hospital, the surgeon, the staff, how you handle anesthesia, etc... Nothing hurt me and everyone was surprised; I didn't even need painkillers. There wasn't much blood after the packing came out either, but then again, the girl next to me was dying from the pain, and then I was suffering from lack of sleep—she couldn't even eat or drink because she couldn't open her mouth 😬😬
brightotter21 said:Lisa Edwards yeah, just driving out to see him... that's a massive trek for me 😢

How long has it been since yours started falling out?? Like, does anyone actually know roughly how many stitches they put in your nose? I’ve had 4 fall out so far—about a month and a half post-op. I still have two right at the tip of my nose that are holding on tight, and I'm pretty sure they'll stick around for a bit. Plus, there's probably more in the middle since everything from the right nostril came out and only one stitch is left on the left side

Same here, I have to head into NYC too—but it’s fine, you just call ahead to schedule, then ask your doctor for the referral and travel authorization... I don't think every doctor is the same, but I got lucky and managed to get my paperwork covered for the trip to NYC, and it turned out to be worth the drive 🙂..........

After 3 weeks, they all usually go—and honestly, it feels way too early, so I have no clue how many were in there originally. When my doctor lifted my nose, they were right at the top where you could see them inside. If yours are lasting longer, don't sweat it—they're holding firm. I wish mine had stayed in that long 😬😬
Megan Wright39 said:Look, don't stress if your tip looks a bit crooked or one nostril seems slightly off... it's totally normal. Some people bounce back quickly and their nose settles in 3-4 months after surgery, while others—myself included—have to wait a full year before everything actually lands where it should be....☕

If you still can't breathe properly after 6 months, it isn't normal—especially for those who had a deviated septum and went under the knife just to have the nose tilt or the septum shift again. My doctor told me at my first follow-up that if things weren't straight by the 6-month mark, I needed to come back. Well, here I am. I need another surgery. Just my luck. 😬 I could have waited a year like some people, but when you can't breathe—which was the whole reason for the surgery in the first place—you can't just sit there. Better to see the doctor after 6 months to get an actual exam. Everything happening early on is fine, but if it’s still wonky after 6 months or a year, then something's wrong. 😬

brightotter21 said:I'm honestly terrified that they set the mold unevenly during the process, and now my nose has basically shaped itself to that crooked mold and is stuck that way forever. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Same issue here. I think my stitches came out too early, so it didn't heal right and my septum shifted again. Who knows what actually happened... but at least I can go back in for another procedure, and they admitted it was their mistake—just my luck, I guess. Go see the surgeon who did the job, tell them exactly what's going on, and ask how to fix it. They might suggest a revision surgery. 😁😁
Taylor Miller10 said:I sent you that message again... you should have it now. 🙂

Yeah, yeah... maybe we'll run into each other if my folks don't grill me the second I walk through the door after hearing about work.

I don't know who told you that, but I was there for 9 days—which was way too long for me... When I was there for two months, the doctors during rounds used to mess with me, joking that I'd probably be stuck here until Easter 🤣 oh, by the way, I asked if I could head out after they removed the tampon, but they told me to stay put. Maybe they're actually slammed right now, whatever... it doesn't bother me, but I'm hoping to be home soon 🙂)
Taylor Miller10 said:Sent you a DM about Face.

Hope it went through. 🙂

Whatever, I don't know why—doesn't matter... maybe we'll cross paths if we end up in the same room. 😬😬

Nancy Perez74 said:😲😲😲 A month??? Several months???
That’s brutal... way too long. But hey, good to know. Hopefully mine clears up one of these days too—as long as it isn't permanent, I guess.

Don't sweat it, it'll pass. My "bruises" took forever to fade—especially that little line under my right eye. In the meantime, just try to cover it with some concealer when you head out... I remember people staring at me weirdly on the subway once before I even realized what was happening... poor souls probably thought I'd been in a fight or just had massive dark circles lol.
😬🤣

Which doctor are you seeing?

Dr. Lennon😁

Well, I'm set for Friday the 25th.....😬😬

I went to Tony's clinic back in February for both a deviated septum repair and some cosmetic work—basically had a bump on my nose... fast forward six months to my follow-up, and I tell him the tip looks crooked. He takes one look and claims the septum just shifted back into place?? (Personally, I think my stitches gave out too early and it healed wonky) so now I’m headed back in next week for another surgery to fix this mess. Really hoping I can actually breathe this time 😬😬

Don't sweat the tip narrowing too much; if they're doing it for aesthetics, they'll make sure it fits your face so you don't end up looking like a pig, don't worry 😁 just make sure you tell the surgeon exactly what you're looking for. For example, I had one doctor do my initial work and now I've got a different one scheduled, so who knows if this guy will actually get it right hahahh. anyway, if you're there at the same time, maybe we'll run into each other 🎉
brightotter21 said:One side of my nose feels slightly curved—sort of a "C" shape? I don't know how to describe it. It's not super obvious, but I noticed it. The other side looks totally normal and straight... will it stay like this or change? It's been 3 weeks since my surgery.

Well, you think just one side? My whole nose has that "C" curve—it’s actually pretty noticeable when looking straight at me. I had surgery for a deviated septum, but it didn't work, so I'm heading back in because the septum shifted again... definitely mention this to your surgeon at your follow-up. Mine told me if it doesn't straighten out within 6 months, we'll figure out the next steps—which means I'm going back under the knife...😬😬
Rachel Martinez94 said:I'll be happy if I can just get a referral for blood work from my primary care doctor... they are seriously stingy when it comes to handing those out. 🤣

Haha, I know exactly how you feel—the first time I went to Washington, D.C., they didn't even give me a travel authorization. And then, despite having a deviated septum and breathing issues, they wouldn't cover my follow-up appointment. Like, excuse me? I get to choose my hospital, so why can't I get an authorization? Makes zero sense... but hey, one really nice doctor covering the shift actually sorted out my paperwork for a six-month checkup. 😁😁 That matters a lot to me—I have to set aside quite a bit for travel...
placidcobra842 said:I know people get annoying with these kinds of questions, but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with which doctors covered by Medicare are actually decent—and specifically, if any are willing to do some cosmetic touch-ups on the nose while they're at it? Is that even still an option in our hospitals?

A lot of people bring up good doctors, but nobody ever mentions the ones who'll fix the aesthetics for free!

I had my nose fixed at the beginning of the year at KB Merkur in New York City. Their ENT department has several specialists, so it really just comes down to which one you see for the consultation and who ends up performing the surgery. I got lucky—one of the doctors agreed to handle the aesthetic part too. He wasn't originally looking to do it, but I pushed for him to correct the shape while he was at it... and he did. I’ve definitely known cases where doctors flat-out refused to do any cosmetic work, and they didn't—there were girls in the room with me during my consult who dealt with that. So, yeah, it all depends on how you negotiate during the exam.

-Doctors under Medicare...- Well, their job is to fix the deviation—that's what they're paid for—not to play sculptor. It really boils down to your communication and whatever deal you strike with the specific doctor. And look, not all Medicare doctors are the same. Some will want you to pay extra for the aesthetic side (not sure about those specific cases) and some won't. 😁

In my first surgery, they fixed the deviation, but my stubborn nose tip ended up crooked again, so I'm basically back to square one. At the follow-up, they told me they'd operate again, but this time just for the cosmetic part of the tip. If you have more questions, shoot me a PM 😬😬
granitecrane12 said:how do I find out if I actually have a deviation (even though I'm 100% sure I do)?
how long does recovery take? that's my main concern—when can I get back into sports normally?
do public hospitals actually fix this? (meaning, does it actually work?) or is it a case of "you get what you pay for"?
regarding aesthetics, it's not a huge deal for me right now (my nose isn't ugly), but like I said, breathing deeply is the priority. This thing is driving me crazy—talking through my nose, mostly mouth-breathing... a total disaster -.-
thanks for the answers

Ask your doctor for an ENT referral and schedule an exam. Only then will you know for sure if there's even a deviation—most people have one, it’s just that for some, it's pronounced enough to cause actual breathing issues... or maybe it's just sinuses or allergies... No one believed I had a deviation until I went to the ENT and proved it... everyone just thought I wanted a nose job for looks.🤣

Yeah, they fix the deviation and you'll breathe normally—though recovery takes about 6 months to a year... that's how long the nose itself takes to heal... as for sports, I think you can get back to it after 2 months (if I'm wrong and someone corrects me) or whenever your doctor clears you, depending on the sport... personally, I was back after 4 months...😁

If you don't care much about how the nose looks, go to a public hospital (though if you find a good surgeon, they might fix the aesthetics too). You've got nothing to lose and you can just use Medicare. But if you have extra cash and the look matters to you, go private.😁
granitecrane12 said:So look 🙂 , I’ve got some questions—my nose is killing me, I can barely breathe, and honestly, it’s driving me crazy 🙂
I'm 17 years old. Can you still get a septoplasty at that age?
How much does it cost? Like, how much if you want to fix the shape of the nose too?
I don't really care about the pain part, I just want to be able to take a full breath again
Thanks everyone for the help, cheers

Yeah, you can definitely fix a deviated septum with surgery at 17. At least in public hospitals—not sure about private clinics...
And yeah, if you go through a public hospital, it shouldn't cost anything since it's covered by Medicare if you have a deviation. You can usually chat with them about fixing the aesthetics at the same time, or if you don't want that, you just look elsewhere. As for private clinics, I wouldn't know... maybe someone else can chime in or just read through this thread a bit more...
It doesn't even hurt that much... and I want to be able to breathe properly too, which is why I'm going back in myself 😁
Hey, just wanted to share my experience—I'm one of those cases where the surgery "works" by fixing the septum, but then the tip of the nose tilts so much that you end up right back where you started 😢......So, I've been scheduled for another round to fix their mistake......When they told me at the follow-up that I was part of that tiny percentage where things don't go as planned, I was honestly floored. Like, really? Of all people, it had to be me? Anyway, I'm going back under the knife so I can finally breathe properly (that’s the main goal, anyway) and hopefully have a decent-looking nose 🙂......😁
brightangler18 said:Hey everyone—I haven't had much time to dig through this whole thread, but I have one question.

I've got a septoplasty scheduled with Dr. Smith at Mayo Clinic this November. I'm wondering if they'll fix the aesthetic side of things automatically, or if I need to specifically ask for that—and if there's an extra fee involved. Sorry if this was already covered in the thread, but I've seen so many different versions of this online that I'm just confused.

thanks in advance 😁

hey guys

I had nose surgery with him about 6 months ago—same thing, deviated septum. Make sure you emphasize that you want the cosmetic part fixed too; he at least smoothed out my bump 😁...but honestly, I still can't breathe right through my right nostril (never could, really) and my nose looks crooked, leaning to the left... I'm just wondering if that's normal, btw. I read some posts saying it is, but I'm not so sure myself... feels like my stitches came out too early or maybe the inside of my right nostril hasn't healed properly??? Like, maybe the surgery worked but the recovery didn't.........😢...anyway, I have a follow-up tomorrow so we'll see what the issue is... just hoping they don't tell me it's "normal" 😕......it doesn't feel normal for my nose to look this crooked.........😢
