You shouldn't be hitting any bottlenecks on 2GB of DDR..
Windows 7 looks a lot nicer, but honestly, XP is just way more straightforward when you need to get stuff done fast. If you're all about that aesthetic vibe, then Windows 7 is definitely your move..
