3. Hit OK.
4. Choose the option to "Create a USB flash drive to update or recover the system BIOS on another Dell Personal Computer." Click Next, pick your flash drive, hit Next again, and then click Finish.
5. Plug that USB drive into the computer with the black screen.
6. Hold down the Command Key + b and the power button at the same time.
7. Let go of both once you see the screen's backlight flash.
Just a note: the machine starts the recovery automatically once it powers up, even if the screen stays dark. You'll know it's working because the Caps Lock LED will be blinking.
8. Once you see the message "A System BIOS Recovery has occurred. BIOS Recovery (500)," go ahead and restart the computer.

Sent it in for repair. Is it actually possible for someone to mess up a BIOS flash so badly that the thing is just bricked forever?

Man, I’m dealing with a total nightmare on my Dell Latitude 650. It keeps throwing this BIOS Recovery (500) error at me constantly—it's driving me insane—and I can't get past it for the life of me. I've been trying this method to fix it, but it just keeps looping back to the same damn screen. Anyone got a clue what I should do? Maybe I'm screwing something up and need a better way to actually make this work. Any help would be huge, thanks in advance

Man, just tell us exactly what GPU you're running. I dealt with the same headache on a rig I was building—every single time I rebooted, it would nag me for a driver update because apparently Windows 10 isn't even fully stable yet.

Look, try running a scan with Malwarebytes to scrub out any malware, and double-check that you don't have some random auto-update running in the background. Let me know what happens.

Hey, do me a favor and send over a screenshot of your processes first. Just hit ctrl+alt+del—>task manager—>processes. Or better yet, just kill off any weird stuff if you spot anything sketchy, then let me know 👍

Never dealt with this before either—that's why I'm asking. The issue is with this specific GPU series—whenever I try to install the newer driver version, it automatically installs for the GeForce GTX 480 instead, and then it won't even let me toggle Crossfire on. So I rolled back to an older version and finally got it to show what's actually inside my laptop, but I still can't get the second card to kick in. I'll try to scramble some more ideas together tomorrow and hit you guys up.

Also, did you grab the latest drivers? You should probably try plugging it straight into the Motherboard just to see if the issue clears up there.

Why the hell are you even letting Windows repair run?

Did the PC actually finish booting? Have you tried swapping out the VGA cable? Tried plugging in a different monitor? Start with the basics—that's the fastest way to figure out what's actually broken.

Of course there's a way if you're 100% sure that's what broke it... Just cut the cable—you know, chop off the part that got crushed—then strip the wires and solder them back together, and boom, you're good. Good luck.

Look, here's the deal... just grab some DVD to AVI converter software... use that to turn your DVD files into, say, an AVI file and call it a day.
