God, I just had this sudden flashback to my first year teaching back in Chicago. I had arranged an afternoon meeting with the handful of parents who actually showed up, and since they all worked during the day, I figured it was easier for them if we met later. I told them it was totally fine—I have the keys to the building, so there wouldn't be any issues. Then, of course, I show up and realize I completely forgot to grab the keys. Two moms are standing right outside the school waiting for me, and what am I supposed to do? I just had to look them in the eye and admit I didn't have the keys, so instead of a meeting, I ended up just walking them through the neighborhood. 🤣 They actually told me later that it was the best parent-teacher conference 🤣 they’d ever attended.

np Lady Blackbird - Nobody's Sweetheart...
Easily the greatest comment on this entire board. 🤣 I won't waste my breath explaining why because I honestly couldn't have put it better myself; I’m obsessed with Morphine and truly believe their legacy stands at the absolute pinnacle of everything worth listening to in music.
Imagine blasphemy—a rock band, yet they ditch the guitar entirely, pfft! Sure, if you want to be difficult. But then again, they’ve got a saxophone, a two-string bass, and drums.
"They’re easily my absolute favorite band, and if I had to guess, they’re probably one of the most played groups back in my neck of the woods, Springfield, Mexico." 😁
Happy New Year to everyone out there; I’m wishing you all an abundance of health, happiness, and wealth, and hopefully, the Yankees finally take first place! 😁 )))

No, just some local guys at Starbucks & co. ...
Thanks. 😘 It’s over now, no big deal. I ran a high fever on Christmas Eve and stayed that way for a few days, so I spent most of my time sleeping while my manager told me to stay home from work. I went to get tested this morning and everything came back clear. And honestly, it was December 31st here in Chicago, and after years of praying for actual snow and ice, it was a ridiculous 60 degrees outside. As someone who is basically an old weather nerd, those sudden shifts always leave me feeling absolutely miserable and completely out of sorts. God dammit, seriously! 😁
I’ve basically gone into full isolation. I'm stuck at home alone and skipping work entirely, just having my groceries and everything else delivered with a note to leave them right on the doorstep.
Sure, I get that, but if this actually turns out to be COVID, I’d at least like to have some kind of official recovery certificate for my records. I'll check in with my primary care physician; she's holding office later this afternoon.
I was running a fever of 102 degrees for days on end, though I’m finally feeling alright today. Tomorrow, I plan to call my primary care physician and then follow up with the local health department to see if I actually caught some nasty virus. To make matters worse, the medical staff at my workplace refused to even test me because I wasn't on their priority list—apparently, since I already got both doses of the vaccine, they only bother testing the unvaccinated ones 🤦 what an absolute idiot!
I was talking to my mother earlier today and she hits me with this: "Do you know who took their own life?" "No idea, who?" "That Maria M. Miller lady. Do you know her?" "Not at all." "She told me he was just some guy, maybe in his sixties, someone I used to see walking alone along the Santa Monica Pier with his dog... a bit of an oddball, honestly. Well, he jumped from the fifth floor and landed right on B.'s car. Completely totaled it. It was a brand new car, hadn't even been registered yet."
I don't make it to many games in person, though I’ll catch a broadcast on TV every now and then. Honestly, seeing Roger Federer compete remains the single greatest sporting spectacle I've ever witnessed; there's just something legendary about that Southern California energy. 🤣 👍
