GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Alex Harris32 said:Why wouldn't you just grab the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550?

Yeah, sure, it’s $30 pricier, but having an unlocked multiplier makes overclocking a total breeze.
Plus, it's just faster out of the box.

What was the point of swapping the motherboard anyway?
Is there actually anything wrong with the one we suggested?

alright fine, I'll go with this one plus that CPU. The thing is, I really want a better processor so I can actually run newer games, and once I scrape enough cash together (hopefully soon), I'm gonna ditch the EVGA GeForce 9600 GT and swap in something way more powerful.

THANKS GUYS!!
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
1.Intel Core 2 Quad, LGA 1366, BOX
2.Asrock motherboard, LGA 1366 - NVIDIA nForce 720D, ATX, Solid Capacitors
3.DDR3 2048MB ( 2GB ) Kingmax, 1333MHz, CL9, FLFE85F-B8EE9
4.HDD Samsung 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache Serial ATA II-300,F3,HD502HJ

Picked this up for $2,000 at Best Buy

Eventually I’m gonna upgrade the whole thing, but I'll grab a better GPU once I actually save enough cash. For now, I'm stuck with this EVGA GeForce GT 220

Alex Harris32 said:It's a decent enough processor, I guess, but honestly? It’s outdated as hell and way too pricey for what you actually get out of it.

Why even bother overcomplicating things?

The builds they're throwing at you with that AMD gear—the motherboard and the 2GB of RAM—cost just as much as this CPU alone. It's a joke.

Just one more thing: Don't ever buy anything from Ve-Mil... seriously, never.

So, will that rig actually handle Black Ops on MEDIUM settings?

http://www.ve-mil.com/description.aspx?pika...&Sifra=1011345 so, basically that combo with the motherboard and the new RAM you guys mentioned

what's the deal with this one??

Casey Long2 said:Then you just slap a beefier GPU on there, like:

1 x Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, socket LGA 775, BOX, 2MB cache, 65W
1 x ASRock M3A UCC - NVIDIA SLI, Intel ICH series, ATX, FSB 1000
1 x DDR3 2048MB ( 2GB ) Kingmax, 1333MHz, CL9, FLFE85F-B8EE9
1 x PointOfView GTS250 512MB DDR3 256 bit, PCI Express 2.0

$675

thanks!!

Casey Long2 said:Ugh. It’s not exactly a disaster, but honestly? This thing is basically a dinosaur now. The old chips and the new ones just aren't talking to each other anymore. If you actually wanted to swap out the processor, you'd be looking at a whole new motherboard too. And since you're stuck on old-school DDR memory and everyone uses DDR3 nowadays, a new board means you'll have to ditch your RAM entirely. Total headache.

The absolute cheapest way to go about this would be:
One Intel Core 2 Duo, AM3 socket, BOXed version, 2MB cache, 65W.
1 x Asrock M3A UCC - NVIDIA SLI, Intel ICH series, ATX, FSB 1000
Just picked up a single stick of 2GB Kingmax DDR3. It’s running at 1333MHz with CL9 latency. Just one of those modules, specifically model FLFE85F-B8EE9.

Total: $387

Alright, if everything can just be swapped out like that, then fine—throw $2,000 at it. Whatever.

Casey Long2 said:Like I said, what motherboard are we talking about here? And what CPU are you running right now?

An Intel Pentium 4, which is honestly garbage, paired with an ASUS motherboard that’s probably just as pathetic lol

Casey Long2 said:Look, honestly, going with a Phenom is probably total overkill considering the GPU you're running.
What kind of motherboard are we talking about here? And how much RAM is in the build?

Got 2 GB of RAM. If the Phenom is way too much, I can always just grab something else.

Casey Long2 said:So what else is in your rig right now?
Btw, your GPU isn't exactly high-end, it's more on the budget side...

Yeah, I know it sucks, but I'm just praying it can actually run Black Ops 🙂, I've got a Corsair 400W PSU and honestly, don't even worry about the CPU—I need a new one anyway

Hey guys, I'm rocking a SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 4650 1 GB right now, but my CPU is absolute garbage. I really need to upgrade if I want to actually play stuff like 🙂CODlack Ops. I'm looking at a processor for about $333, does this look like a solid move or do you guys have better suggestions?
