Best portable speaker recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
The whole point of this project is to clear out all the clutter—I’m trying to go wireless wherever I possibly can to get rid of this mess of cables. My keyboard and mouse are already wireless, and I’ve got the PC hooked up via Wi-Fi using those little USB adapters. Using a 3.5 mm jack just isn't an option for me because there's this constant, annoying buzzing whenever I plug my headphones in. I've tested several different pairs of headphones, but they all have that same hum, so it's pretty safe to assume the 3.5 mm port itself is the culprit here. I'm asking because, honestly, I've always just used the dongles that come in the box with my peripherals; I haven't really messed around with Bluetooth or any of that tech before.
By the way, I'm running Linux Ubuntu, which usually makes things easy since they tend to have drivers for almost everything. I don't really play games, but I do watch a lot of movies—which is why I'm a bit worried. I've heard people complaining about audio-to-video sync issues when they try to connect a Bluetooth soundbar to their TV while streaming through a set-top box. For me, I mostly just watch files straight from my hard drive that I've grabbed via torrents.
My plan is to grab a dongle first, connect my headphones via Bluetooth, and if that works out without a hitch, then I'll look into getting some speakers.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, 👍

Hey there! I have a quick question about hooking up some Bluetooth speakers to my PC. To be honest, this machine is a bit of a relic—we're talking over a decade old here.
Since it doesn't have built-in Bluetooth, I was thinking about just picking up an adapter.
Here is the current setup:
Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 Black
DVD drive: LG GH22NS
PSU: Zalman 450-GS PSU
HDD: WD 500GB, 5000AAKX, SATA 3
GPU: MSI R7750 OC Dual Fan, 1GB GDDR5
RAM: dual Channel 2 xDDR3 4GB Kingmax, 1333MHz
Motherboard: Asrock B75M - Intel B75, M-ATX, dual Channel 2 xDDR3 - 1600
CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz
SSD: Corsair 60GB Force 3, 2.5", SATA 3
The OS is Linux

I am planning on grabbing these speakers:

And then connecting them to the computer using this specific adapter:

Do you think this will actually work? Or should I be looking for a different combination if I want to get these speakers connected wirelessly?
My DSL is down in IT Support ·
If that DSL light is either flickering like crazy or just staying dark, you’re likely looking at a break somewhere between the local exchange and your router. Honestly—before you start calling customer support—you should probably double-check your own home wiring first. If everything looks fine on your end and there's still no signal, then go ahead and file a service request with your ISP.
Fiber internet installation help in IT Support ·
What you’re looking at in this photo is just an antenna jack—it actually has absolutely nothing to do with fiber optics.
Maybe try explaining it to the boss this way: having high-speed fiber already installed makes the place way more attractive to potential renters or buyers down the road. It's basically future-proofing the property, right?
As for the actual work involved—they’ll be drilling a small hole near the entrance to run the fiber line through, and then they'll install some conduits along the walls to reach the spot where all the gear—you know, the media converter and the router—is going to sit.
How to set up a WiFi extender in IT Support ·
I’ve actually spent quite a bit of time trying to pair an older model—specifically a Netgear WiFi Extender—with that exact same Cisco DSLAM at various spots, and honestly? Nothing worked. It seems like there is just this fundamental incompatibility between D-Link gear and Cisco equipment—they just don't want to play nice together. I had zero issues getting it to pair with Siemens or Speedport hardware, though. I even heard about one user who managed to get that Cisco unit working perfectly with an Edimax extender, which was a bit of a surprise! If I were in your shoes, I might consider... well, let's just say you could potentially report some sort of technical glitch with the current router to see if they'll swap it out for a Speedport. Or, you could just head down to the shop, trade that D-Link in for an Edimax, and see if that finally does the trick.
PC keeps constant restarting in IT Support ·
I ran into this exact same headache—it all came down to dust buildup. I tried cleaning it out with a microfiber cloth and gave the fans a good blast with some compressed air, and honestly, everything ran perfectly fine for about two or three years. When the issue popped up again, I decided to go a step further; I repeated the cleaning process and actually took the time to swap out the thermal paste entirely. And you know what? It’s working flawlessly now.
