L5 vertebrae split disc herniation in Health ·
wanderingcobra76 said:you’ve had that split since you were born—you just didn't realize🙂 it was anything significant.

A sudden movement can trigger a muscle spasm along the spine, which ends up putting pressure on a nerve. Or, you could be dealing with a minor herniated disc—that's often what causes leg pain, and honestly, those don't always show up on a standard spinal scan.

I actually went to see my doctor this afternoon, and she told me the exact same thing—though, being the skeptic that I am, I'm still taking it all with a grain of salt. What I really want to know is about the risks when it comes to working out. A few times a week, I head over to Central Park to go for a run and knock out some push-ups and pull-ups... is it actually smart to keep doing those kinds of exercises given my situation?

I’m looking for some advice here. I was twisting suddenly from a semi-crouched position and felt this sharp pain shoot through my lower back—it eventually started radiating all the way down my right leg. I went ahead and got some imaging done, and the radiologist's report says: "Imaging of the lumbar spine shows a pars interarticularis defect at L5. All other findings are within normal limits."

Is this something serious, and what kind of recovery am I looking at?
