GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Thanks for the input—I was leaning in the same direction... My only real worry is whether the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 can actually handle this power supply. If it manages to hold up for a few months, I’ll definitely pick up a decent unit later once I've got the cash...

By the way, just regarding the HD 5670—I'm stuck using a tiny 17" LCD monitor, unfortunately... an old Samsung SyncMaster 720n

That's why I was considering the 512MB DDR5 version... Not sure though...
So, that's the whole situation. It looks like it's down to a toss-up between the Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 and the HD 5670 512MB...

Guys, I'm looking to pick up a new GPU... $233..
My pick was... 5670 1GB...

The specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.8GHz...
The power supply that came bundled with the case is only 400W... 😁
Asrock A770DE+...
4GB of DDR2 800 RAM...

So, my GPU finally kicked the bucket. I know if I grab something that outclasses my entire current build, the whole thing is just going to choke... What I'm actually mulling over is picking up a decent, modern graphics card now—then down the road, I can swap out the power supply and the CPU since I'm stuck on this old AM2+ platform...
So, what's the verdict? My pick is that AMD Radeon HD 5670—what are you guys suggesting...
If you happen to have any better ideas... it would be great if you could share them with me...

Man, thanks!! 😁 I'm not on here all that often, so I haven't quite gotten used to the whole multi-quote thing yet...

Anyone got an answer for me? Maybe this is a pretty basic question, but I promise I'm not being dense... I just want to know if that GPU will actually fit on that motherboard.

So, I picked out this GPU for a buddy of mine since his old Geforce Leadtek 8600GTS 256mb finally kicked the bucket.
The only catch is the specs say it uses PCI Express 2.0 x16,
but his motherboard is basically a Samsung Galaxy Note II

Obviously, it has a PCI-e slot, it just doesn't explicitly list the 2.0 extension...

Will this little card actually work? Everything else he's running is pretty dated too (an AMD Athlon II X2 4400+), but people don't exactly have money lying around for a total system overhaul. Is this a decent choice?
The price of $193 seems totally fine...

dustyorca33 said:Hey everyone. I'm looking for some insight regarding perianal abscesses and fistulas. What actually causes them, and is there any way to stop this from looping back around? My dad ended up in the ER after a perianal abscess just... exploded. He didn't even know he had anything—zero symptoms—until suddenly he was dealing with a high fever and body aches. After five days of thinking it was just the flu, the swelling around his rectal area became obvious. Diagnosis: perianal abscess with two fistulas. He had to go under the knife at the local University Hospital for an incision and drainage. He spent two weeks stuck in bed, in constant pain, being driven back and forth for dressing changes and having the leftover pus squeezed out... honestly, it was brutal. Now, it’s been leaking constantly, and they told him to sit in chamomile baths and massage the area... but it looks like it's filled up again. Most likely heading back for another surgery. The staff at the hospital are pretty rough—they don't explain anything, don't really talk to the patient... has anyone dealt with this elsewhere? And how are you supposed to behave post-op to lower the chances of it coming right back?

If it's anything like a pilonidal sinus, I've been through it. Check out the thread on pilonidal sinuses here

I'm no doctor, and frankly, I'm pretty fed up with the doctors over at the Mayo Clinic—I've had the same "cyst" drained three separate times there. They basically provided nothing but temporary relief. Since my issue flares up at least once a quarter, they haven't helped me one bit in the long run. I'm heading in for a final surgery this summer...

Just Google "perianal abscess"... you can find plenty of Q&As regarding this whole mess.

Back again with the same old issues.

I’m hoping to finally get that pilonidal sinus surgery scheduled soon—using a specialist my friend recommended.
I can't pull the trigger on the surgery just yet because I'm dealing with some lung stuff, so I have to get a lung CT before I can move forward with the sinus procedure. But I'll be heading in for that damn surgery eventually... hopefully everything turns out fine.

In the meantime, somewhere between the lung issues and the backside drama, a new problem has cropped up.

On my glutes—specifically the surface area—these little lumps are appearing. When I run my hand over them, they feel about as raised as a mole would. They're worrying me because they feel like "foreign objects," plus they occasionally itch UNNORMALLY much. No bleeding, but I have no clue what they are.

I also scrolled through this entire thread and saw someone mention seeing red spots on the toilet paper, which people usually link to hemorrhoids. That’s also an issue for me, and honestly, I’m praying I haven't inherited that particular nuisance. I don't have massive bowel movements constantly, but I do go twice a day fairly often. Because of that frequency, I figured those red spots might just be skin irritation from wiping—basically just "scraping" the skin 🙄. Is that a reasonable assumption?
As I mentioned in a previous post, I've seen significant amounts of blood on the paper before, but I'm pretty sure that's just the pilonidalis acting up.

One more thing: hygiene is perfectly fine. Showering in the morning, after work, whenever needed, and at night. The sinus isn't being as wild as it was a month ago, but I’m almost looking forward to getting it dealt with.
Anyway... focus on the lumps and the four red dots on the white paper 🤣

What can you do... I guess I'll figure it out eventually.
Anyway, thanks for the input, even if nobody actually has a solid suggestion...
Does anyone know what private clinics usually charge for this? I'm a bit strapped for cash right now because of tuition, so I was hoping to go through Medicare... But if I don't have a choice, then so be it...

Hey. I’ve been following this discussion about hemorrhoids, and while I don't think I have any issues there, I am constantly dealing with a pilonidal sinus swelling up right above my tailbone.
Basically, I’ve already been through surgery at Mayo Clinic three times now. Three separate times they’ve cut into me and drained the infection, but the whole thing just keeps coming back. It’s been two months of me constantly having to bandage myself because it just won't stop leaking. The wound refuses to close—and even if it does, it just swells up again and bursts right in the middle of downtown Chicago in broad daylight.
I’m at a loss here. If I head back to the ER for surgical consult, they’ll just slice it open, clean it out, and run through the same old routine. The doctor tells me there’s some kind of cyst inside, but when I ask if they can just remove that entire section, I get nothing but silence.
If anyone knows what actually works, please let me know.
Honestly, it’s ruining everything—I can't work, I can't focus on classes, I can't go to the beach, I can't even exercise... nothing...
One more thing.
I noticed this tiny little hole has formed just below the wound area. And sometimes, after using the bathroom, I end up looking down at a hand full of blood...
I am in a total bind here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers...
