What’s your take on the GTX 460 768 MB? Specifically the one from Gigabyte.
I tracked one down at outlet prices for $417. Personally, I think it's a steal.
My main reason for eyeing this card is that it doesn't seem to have any major drawbacks. It’s got a solid cooler and it's pretty power-efficient.
I’d be running it on a 20" monitor at 1680x1050 resolution. I don't usually go overboard with AA or heavy filters anyway. They aren't really a priority for me.
Right now, I'm rocking an 8800 GTS, so I wanted to see what you guys think about making this jump.
What’s the consensus on the Nvidia GeForce GTX series? Here is the link. I need something to run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Honestly, I’m torn between this one and the 5850. I can't figure out if stepping up to the 5850 is actually worth the cash. Looking at the benchmarks, it doesn't seem to be doing much of anything at standard resolutions. For context, I'm currently running at 1680x1050 on a 20-inch monitor. Which way should I go?
I’d personally go with those MX 518s. If you've actually got the budget for it though, you definitely can't beat a Roccat Kone. It's sitting around $200, but honestly, you won't regret spending the extra cash 👍.

Wait, wouldn't the new ATI Radeon HD 5850 be a better call?
If you’ve got as much patience as I do😂 then maybe just hold off for a bit, because prices are bound to drop as time goes on. Honestly though, my nerves are shot and I'm completely tapped out.🤣
James Morris4 said:Personally, I think grabbing an HD5850 is a solid move. It’s a fact that prices are going to drop. If you aren't in a massive rush, just hang tight until things get cheaper. Then, maybe in about four months or so, you could even pick up a second one for CF. But if you need it now, just go ahead and grab it. 😁
I'm not really in a huge hurry since my 8800 GTS still handles everything reasonably well. But I can't wait forever either.🤣 I figure I can hold out for a few more weeks to see how the pricing shakes out. Something is bound to drop.
I haven't really dug into a direct comparison with the HD4890 yet to see if they're significantly faster. I need to do some Googling first so I don't just throw money away. heheh. Either way, this new ATI series definitely seems like a good value.
I've got my eye on that HD5850, but I'm still on the fence about it. Is it actually worth picking up? Is there any real, noticeable difference compared to the HD4890? I see it's hovering under $2,000, which doesn't seem too crazy.
Zachary Wilson30 said:Look, if you're worried about the power supply, why pick that specific model? An $67 XFX card is actually $33 cheaper... plus, for just a little bit more, you could probably grab a GTX 275 instead...
It doesn't strictly have to be that exact model. I just need something in the 1500 to 2000 range max that won't blow my current power supply. Any recommendations? 🤷
Does anyone here have hands-on experience with the SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4890.? I'm looking at picking this card up, and I need to know if my 550 W. EVGA power supply is going to cut it. Just as a heads-up, my current setup is running a 3.0 e6850 with 4 GB of RAM.
Also, I wanted to ask about buying hardware online. Which US retailers would you guys recommend? I mean places like Diskont 24, Protis, or maybe Best Buy...
James Morris4 said:Which CPU are we talking about exactly? Given that power supply, I wouldn't go higher than a GeForce GTX 275 or an HD 4890, depending on what kind of unit you actually have. Even at a scrap yard, I wouldn't touch anything more powerful than that.
EVGA 550W Power Supply. Pentium E 6850. Is that enough?
Here's another question for the group. I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo at 3.0 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and an EVGA 550W Power Supply which graphics card would actually make sense for this specific setup?
I see a lot of you guys talking about component compatibility and how certain cards pair with certain CPUs, so I want to know which one would be the best fit for what I have here. Price isn't my main concern; I just don't want to waste money on something that won't perform properly with these parts. 😛
