Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
I'm looking for some advice—planning to pick up a new power supply for around $500 up to $183. I don't really need massive wattage right this second, but I'm prepping for a future upgrade, so I won't actually be swapping it out for maybe another two years. In this price range, the Corsair units caught my eye—specifically the STS 600W—so I’d love to hear your thoughts or any recommendations. Honestly, I might even stretch my budget a bit if it means getting much better value. Other models I've been eyeing include the Corsair ZS 650W (by the way, how is Corsair as a manufacturer in terms of build quality?), the ZS 750W, the Corsair VX550, the Corsair TX650V2 (or the EVGA unit that's basically identical to the Corsair one), and the Corsair GS600.
Right now, I'm running an Intel Core i5 (3.2) with integrated graphics on a Gigabyte board, but the plan is to eventually grab something like a GeForce RTX later on—and at that point, both the CPU and GPU will likely be old news.

I actually looked into PSUs a while back, but had to put the purchase on hold for financial reasons... sorry, Admin, for posting this outside the specific PSU thread, but I wasn't getting any bites in the main section.

I could use some advice. I’m looking to pick up a new power supply for around $500—well, maybe a bit less than $183—since I don't need massive wattage right this second, but I want to leave room for future upgrades. In this price range, the Corsair STS 600W caught my eye, so I'm curious what you guys think. Any recommendations? Honestly, if there's something significantly better, I might stretch my budget a little more if it makes sense.

Look, things aren't all bad regarding the Corsair CX430W—actually, they're better than you might think.

The only reason WE are giving Our “ Silver Award ” instead of “ Golden ” is The efficiency—it dips just a hair under 80% when pulling a full 430 W—but it’s still a top-tier recommendation for budget builds, especially once you factor in the cost. We're talking about a unit that goes for only about $45...

So why does Corsair market the "T" series as being superior to the "V" series then? Plus, the rated wattage on the TX650 looks higher than the VX550 on paper. I’m pretty confused here—especially since you're telling me the VX550 actually outperforms the TX650, even though the VX550 is about $33 cheaper. 😕

What’s the actual real-world difference between the VX 550 and the TX 650 from Corsair? I noticed the specs say the TX 650 lacks overhead beyond its rating, while the VX 550 supposedly offers massive headroom—is that actually true once you start building? Also, if we're looking at this price range, is there a better recommendation out there for raw power and build quality (maybe even better warranty coverage)?
