Boil five liters of water and see how much residue you're left with; the more, the better.
I'm from San Diego and I get a ton of buildup here, probably around 8 or 9 grams. I used to boil my water all the time, but I can't be bothered anymore. Now I just drink straight from the tap until the scale gets heavy enough to weigh... 🙂
