Bee allergy help needed

When I was a kid, bee stings were nothing—just a little bump and I was fine. But then, maybe two or three years back, everything changed. I broke out in this massive rash and had to rush straight to the ER just to get an injection and some pills. Since then? I’ve basically been lugging those meds around in my bag everywhere I go... a total nuisance. Fast forward to recently: I got stung again. This time, I didn't take the pill right away; instead, I tried playing doctor with various herbal remedies on the site of the sting. And guess what? No allergic reaction. Not a single symptom. But then, a few days later, I realized the stinger is still stuck in there. :/ Is that even possible? Can a stinger actually stay lodged in your skin like that? Has anyone else here dealt with this kind of mess?
