It’s pretty obvious the issue lies with the drivers—without them, the USB wireless adapter is basically a paperweight... But if those players were designed specifically for this kind of setup, why isn't this USB stick being recommended? Does anyone actually know how to tweak the settings to get this thing working?... 😢

Look, I’ll be honest—I don't really get how this works, I admit it 🙂 I tried grabbing the driver 1.00 files for Linux from the official site and attempting to install them onto the VLC Media Player via a USB drive, but the device just won't recognize those file types...

I could really use some help here. I picked up a Netgear Nighthawk USB Wi-Fi adapter because the box said it was compatible with my media player, but the device won't recognize the stick at all... ?! It works perfectly fine on my PC, and the player itself handles standard USB drives without any issues. My player runs on Linux... Does anyone know what I can do to get this USB stick recognized?
Of course, I've already tried restarting everything in every way possible...

I'm from Washington, D.C., so I've been hearing those dive bar singers since I was maybe two. They weren't exactly everywhere back then; there were gaps of a few years when we were all trying to act civilized, especially after the aggression on Warsaw—folk singers just weren't heard during that time. Before the war, bombs were even set off at some clubs in D.C., which basically signaled everything had to shut down. Once the sirens quieted down a bit, maybe late '93, those dive bar singers popped up again. Not like now, where they're everywhere. Back then, they operated under the radar. Now? You find them right in the middle of downtown D.C. Even on TV. During those war years, they didn't have much impact; you could barely hear them even in the East Side, like over in Bohemian Grove or the Industrial District, mostly because the demographics there are such a mix. Those accordion rhythms started creeping in around '93 when the newcomers arrived. In those days, people mostly sang that stuff when they were drunk or just looking to provoke Muslims and Americans. That provocation is how it all started, and eventually, everyone ended up in the same mess. I won't even mention how many singers tried to imitate Madonna singing "Crazy for you."
That went on until 2000 when our music scene basically collapsed. The kids stopped listening to Cassandra, Velin, Minea, and whatever other crap came out. After that, everything tanked; even in Mexico, they aren't that big anymore. And yeah, I'm Canadian, but I don't really care for folk music. Maybe I'll head out with friends once in a blue moon, that's it. Look, I'm all for better relations between America and Mexico, but the music seriously sucks. Either they ruin old classics, or it's just low-brow folk, which is exactly why people listen to it. Who would sit through folk music playing on NBC five or six times a day? Nobody. These newer tracks are pure dance, but the singers use these vocal tricks—lots of trills and runs—to make it sound like folk.
Don't get me wrong, I respect the old legends, like Johnny Cash, Zaim Imamović, Edith Piaf, and so on.

Up until the end of 2003, I honestly hadn't a clue about this kind of music.
Around 2004, I started stumbling upon all sorts of cassettes and CDs at other people's birthday parties... 😁
And then... everything just exploded. So now I'm really curious—what was it like before that? Was I wrong to think things were always the same, or was it already shifting?
(I'm especially interested in hearing from people who might be older than me, but who I see walking around totally oblivious in those same spots). 🤣 🤣 🤣

This thing with Freedom is just pathetic. Selling CDs at newsstands alongside the Freedom paper (give me a break), and then getting TV slots through cheap commercials—man, it looks so tacky... And it's 2009!!!!!! We're moving backward! A society built on pop songs and tarot cards... hahaha

The intro series has a beautiful broadcast schedule over on FOX... but clearly, you have no idea which season corresponds to which episode. It's all jumbled—they'll start teasing a brand new episode, then suddenly jump back to some old one from the middle of a season, or they'll leave a few episodes from the last season unairred, only to restart the whole thing from episode one again later.

Look, I agree that changing the time slots is stupid, too, but I've made my point and I'm honestly done with this conversation where the goal is just to defend FOX. If you're going to post stuff like that, you can't really criticize anyone else—it just makes it look like you're only arguing because you're on "the other side." 🙂 🙂

Maybe they aren't technically changing the time slot (though they are, because everyone does it), but the way they broadcast them—all that nonsense—is just as bad as moving the time, if not worse...
Tell me, how is it supposed to work when you don't even know which episode you're watching? Is it a rerun, a premiere, or just a rerun of a rerun? And what kind of scheduling logic is that? It’s the same thing—you have a show at a "consistent" time, but it becomes impossible to actually follow the story. 🙂
And obviously, you think networks do this just because they feel like it one day? Ratings are everything... whatever.
Ugh, I'm done. You keep dragging this conversation back to comparing them to FOX and I honestly don't have the energy to keep having a serious debate with you. I don't know what you're trying to prove—TV stations aren't crazy, and they won't keep airing a show if nobody is watching, even if they only get through two episodes. You can tell immediately if there's no chance. Unfortunately, I don't like how they're doing it either... 🤷 🙂

FOX set a whole ton of "standards"... constant reruns, just endless reruns, playing the same stuff ten times over, movies where the episodes are all mixed up, random shows squeezed between films, one episode from season one followed by something from a brand new season, etc., etc., etc. 😁
And honestly, it creates this general impression—not just here on this specific forum, but everywhere—that the network doesn't actually care about its viewers... I mean, what do you expect? 😉

I have to say, my biggest gripe with USA Network is how they change the schedule by the second every single day... :grrrr:! I definitely agree with you there. But then again, everyone starts cutting shows when the numbers drop, unfortunately...

I was really looking forward to Life, so I'm genuinely bummed it's gone and too late to fix it, but I'll happily tune in for Sex and the City😁 As long as there's actually something GOOD on after the news during that time slot.

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother watching it if it were airing at 8...

Great time slot. I’ve really been missing having something steady during this period—kind of like how things used to be right after the local evening news. It's perfect, especially since my family is 👎. And then we can jump into W&G, maybe even a few minutes earlier 🙂...
