I’ll start by giving props to Brooklyn and Mazzy Star 🙂

Aside from those two mentioned above and this one suggestion—I don't actually recognize any other albums on this list—so it should be quite an interesting experience discovering these new sounds.

What a gentleman. 🙏

I suggested this one because it was my introduction to him—the very first album I ever heard. Specifically, it was when "The Atlantic Ocean" came on; a tear actually rolled down my cheek—to borrow a phrase from 😁—the moment that chorus hit. From that point on, we've had this deep, intense emotional connection.

Steven Newman50 said:Exactly. If the title isn't colored correctly, it's because you haven't added the prefix next to it. You apply that, then it turns red—since the Album of the Week isn't actually part of the title when you type it in. Just a heads-up for next time.
🙂

No big deal, I'll handle it.

Thanks 👍

It would be nice to see some musical selections inspired by the master's coastal cuisine for once. 😉

I expect you this Thursday with the lineup. 🙂

Amanda Robinson4, I messed up the subtheme title for the album—could you fix it for me if you get a chance? I wanted to tint it that specific shade of red for the album week, but I missed a step and now I'm stuck. 😁

I begrudgingly accept the suggestion—now, if you'll excuse me, I have some praying to do. 😁

Lisa Davis46, thanks for the offer, but I'm not some random caller from the New York City scene—I feel silly even mentioning them. Besides, I'm strapped for time lately, which is exactly why I haven't pitched anything over the last couple of months. Not to mention there are plenty of better candidates than me out there, and from what I can see, some of them have already stepped up to start a thread.

To repent, I’ll listen to Kenny Ball five times, Ibric twice, and then give Srdjan and Buca one go each. 😁

I won't have time to get a post up about Tearse today—but expect it tomorrow.

For now, you have my vote. 😉

🙂

I was torn between suggesting this one or Raoul and The Kings of Spain—which is just as dear to me and something I practically wore out in my younger days—but Badman's song ultimately tipped the scales toward The Seeds.😁

I had established a personal rule to cast exactly three votes during elections—but looking at the current landscape, I can already see it’s going to be incredibly difficult to stick to that limit this week.

brightwolf48 said:That album? Boy, October, War—and then finishing it off with Under a Blood Red Sky—before they finally called it quits after that. They belonged in the upper echelon—right alongside the greatest and most influential rock bands in history.

It’s still the same old story. ☕

In my humble opinion—and I say this after much deliberation—they were churning out either flawless or seriously good albums all the way up until *How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb*. Even that 2004 release holds its own; there are a few tracks in there that are actually quite solid.

I fail to see how anyone could label Zooropa or that pop loss album as anything less than great—for instance, the entire Zoo TV concept developed alongside Zooropa is, in my opinion, absolutely brilliant.

Personally, I still gravitate toward the earlier U2 stuff—mostly those first three albums—because The Edge's sound and style were still so raw and intimate back then. That said, I don't think they stopped dropping solid albums after the first four.

That guitar is going to follow me all the way to my grave.

Every once in a while, I’d stumble upon them—either via some random recommendation or just seeing their name pop up in a thread—but I’ve never actually sat down to give them a proper listen. No specific reason why, really; it just hasn't happened yet. Well, time to fix that.

If you think there’s a better, more "accessible" album to start with for a newcomer, let me know. If this is the one, then great. 😉

Gerald Jackson48 said:I have to admit—Fontaines D.C. was a bit of a discovery for me this time around. They definitely lean heavily on certain legends from the past, but despite that, "Televised Mind" has been stuck in my head for quite a while now. I've been familiar with Sons of Kemet and the London scene for ages, but these guys were new to me. Also, I have to confess—I accidentally hit play on Beck instead of them. Not that I'm complaining; Beck still has that certain something.😁

Glad you dug them. I was just as hooked when I first heard them, and I couldn't agree more regarding what you wrote about Televised Mind. I couldn't stop listening to it for days—it just wouldn't leave my head. It's a stellar track! Honestly, most of this album is.

The influence of the old guard is palpable in their sound—I'll give you that—but the quality is undeniable, and I don't mind them leaning on their idols one bit.

The sheer energy, the weight, the gloom, and that magnetic grit of their sound—combined with those sharp, blunt lyrics (as Ashley Grant66 noted regarding their debut)—creates the perfect storm for a significant work. I truly believe this album is a landmark, and time will only prove that right.

For me, the standout lyrics come from the title track:

"Don’t get stuck in the past
Say your favourite things at mass
Tell your mother that you love her
And go out of your way for others
Sit beneath a light that suits ya
And look forward to a brighter future

Life ain't always empty
Life ain't always empty...

Sink as far down as you can be pulled up
Happiness really ain't all about luck
Let your demeanor be your deep down self
And don't sacrifice your life for your health
When you speak, speak sincere
And believe me friend, everyone will hear

Life ain't always empty
Life ain't always empty...

Bring your own two cents
Never borrow them from someone else
Buy yourself a flower every hundredth hour
Throw your hair down from your lonely tower
And if, and if you find yourself in the family way
Give the kid more than what you got in your day

Life ain't always empty
Life ain't always empty...

Ah, never let a clock tell you what you got time for
It only goes around, goes around, goes around
Take your family name for your own great sins
'Cause each day is where it all begins
And don't give up too quick
You only get one line, you better make it stick
If we give ourselves to every breath
Then we’re all in the running for a hero’s death..."
