I can't thank you all enough for the help.
For the moment, Grandma’s appetite is fantastic and she’s feeling quite herself. She even managed a little stroll through the garden today! It truly warms my heart to see how happy she is just to be back home and surrounded by her great-grandchildren.
As a bit of background, I actually completed my nursing training in Germany and spent years working in assisted living facilities, so please rest assured—we are going to do absolutely everything in our power to make sure she is comfortable and receives top-tier care.
My husband’s mother has been diagnosed with lizard cancer that has already metastasized to her liver. She finally came home from the hospital last Friday, but here is the kicker: the doctors didn't actually sit her down and tell her the diagnosis face-to-face. She was handed a discharge summary that spells out everything in detail, but she hasn't bothered to read it. When she asked us what the paperwork said, we basically just scrambled to make sense of it on the fly. Honestly, I am at a complete loss regarding whether we should just be upfront with her or keep her in the dark. She realistically only has a few months left. To make matters more complicated, her own sister passed away under the exact same circumstances about six years ago, yet somehow, she doesn't seem to make any connection between that tragedy and her current situation. It is baffling. What on earth should we do?
