Could someone please help me make sense of this... My grandfather had his blood drawn for the first time, and his tumor marker count was at 209, whereas the normal range is usually just around 4. He had another blood test done about a week ago, and the number has dropped significantly. It’s still not within the normal range, but there has been a noticeable decrease. I can't quite wrap my head around how that's possible 😕 He isn't on any cancer treatments, just hormone therapy—he's 77, and the doctors felt chemotherapy would be too grueling and might actually shorten his life rather than help. If anyone could offer some insight into what this might mean, I would truly appreciate it.
My grandfather just got his latest test results back. The cancer hasn't spread to his lungs yet, which was a small mercy, but things have changed since last month when it was only affecting two lymph nodes in his neck. Now, all seven are involved. The doctor told us that while it likely won't hit the lungs, it's heading toward his brain. Once it reaches the brain, my grandfather will pass away 😢 It’s been so incredibly heavy trying to process all of this... I just can't wrap my head around how cancer can move this aggressively, this quickly. If anyone here understands the mechanics of why it spreads so fast, I would be so grateful if you could explain it to me... Sending love to you all, please stay strong 🙂
So, my grandfather was eventually diagnosed with prostate cancer that has already metastasized... He went in for some lung scans yesterday, and we should have those results by Friday. He’s fully aware of what he's facing now, and his mood has been a bit of a roller coaster lately. One day he’ll be making jokes at his own expense, and the next he’ll just shut down completely, sinking into this deep depression before cycling right back through it again... My dad spoke with one of the doctors about the situation, and when he showed him the scans, the doctor just offered that blunt, "Better today than tomorrow" kind of outlook. I think most of you probably realize that we aren't looking at a recovery here. He isn't in extreme pain quite yet, though he is hurting—he just won't admit it out loud. That's just how he's always been, staying silent until the discomfort becomes absolutely unbearable... We’re all standing right by his side, doing everything in our power to support him. Sending love to everyone, and I truly hope we can all navigate this difficult stretch together... 🙂

Thank you, Betty Alvarez47. I intend to be right there by his side, and it won't just be me, but my entire family too... we are all going to do our best together to make sure he can experience these final moments in peace, knowing that we are with him every step of the way and that he is deeply loved.🙂

If this really is cancer, and if he truly has reached the terminal stage, there is still so much that can be done to ensure grandfather spends his remaining time with as little suffering as possible. You can actually do a lot to support your family just by looking into palliative care options online... there are plenty of us here who have walked this path before, so please feel free to ask anything at all whenever you need to...

Thank you, Angela. I just felt like I had to share this with someone, to talk through it out loud... I'll let you all know more about what's happening on Monday. I'm desperately trying to convince myself it isn't cancer, but given the test results and the symptoms, everything seems to point in that direction 😢

I know this waiting game is absolutely brutal, but maybe try to look at this whole ordeal as a sort of life lesson. You're going to face moments like this more than once in your lifetime, and mature people just find a way to face them and carry on...

I realize these moments are inevitable, and I know that sometimes, we just have to face death. Everything feels so heavy right now because I lost my grandfather when I was only seven years old. He passed away from Alzheimer's, and I’ve always carried this nagging feeling that I never truly got to say a proper goodbye to him. That's why I'm so terrified of history repeating itself now. Thank you, Angela, for your kind words... I'll try to stay positive. Honestly, I just pray that if it is cancer, my grandfather can get through it with as little pain as possible and won't have to suffer too much.😢
Hi, I’m starting this story with a massive lump in my throat... Yesterday, my grandfather's blood work results finally came back. He had to get his blood drawn because of some pain in his right side, but of course, nobody thought anything serious was going on at first. He went in for the blood test and some kind of imaging on his abdomen, though I'm not entirely sure which specific scan it was... During the imaging, they mentioned his liver looked slightly enlarged, but even then, the doctors didn't suspect much. They just gave him some pills and told him to come back for more blood work if things didn't improve. Since he wasn't feeling any better, he went back for the tests, and that's when the shock hit... the second set of results was a hundred times worse than the first. I don't know all the technical details, and honestly, no one is telling me much since I'm not even fifteen yet... It’s just terrible living through this uncertainty. They are suspecting liver cancer. My grandfather has lost his appetite, he's starting to feel pain around his chest, he can't have regular bowel movements, and he's lost weight... he looks different now, almost wasted, and his abdomen is swelling, which makes us worry that it might have spread. He has an appointment with the doctor this Monday to go over everything, and while nothing is officially confirmed as cancer yet, everything seems to point in that direction. I hate this waiting game, and I hate the very thought of them looking for CANCER 😢 My grandfather is already 77, and I know he's lived a full life, but I just can't wrap my head around this situation... Please, if anyone has advice, or could just tell me that it's something else, something curable... my whole world feels like it's falling apart. I love my grandfather so much and I just don't want to lose him 😢
