Sorry if there are any typos. I'm stuck at work using this ancient keyboard, and honestly, I just don't have the energy to fix them all right now. Peace.
Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I guess I’m joining this conversation too... My grandmother was diagnosed with a kidney tumor, and it’s already metastasized to her liver and lungs. They removed the kidney yesterday, but those metastases are still there, and the doctors are saying chemotherapy won't do much against this specific type of tumor. Right now, the kidney is at pathology, where they'll figure out the exact type of tumor and decide if any kind of therapy is even worth attempting. If they do go the treatment route, they mentioned using so-called "smart pills." I've spent the last few days deep-diving into that term and everything related to this disease, so I'm wondering—will she be getting Sutent? If anyone knows anything about that medication, please let me know. I read it's incredibly expensive, but I saw it listed on the official Medicare site (maybe they just added it recently?). Now I'm just stuck wondering: does Medicare cover the whole thing or just a portion? Regardless, money isn't the issue here; we'd do absolutely anything just to make her feel better. It’s just so strange. One day she was cheerful, strong, doing everything around the house, baking cookies, tending to the garden... and today, she’s lying in Mount Sinai Hospital left to fate. I’m in a total coma myself (along with the rest of the family), and I’ve cried more than I ever thought possible. I need to pull myself together so that when I'm sitting with her, I don't show my fear or my grief. Hang in there, everyone.
