neonnomad7 said:Yes, the ear ones use infrared. I actually need them for checking my kids' temperatures at night, and while I know the battery lasts for about 5,000 readings, this whole concept of calibration is throwing me off... thanks, Eric Newman65.

Calibration?! 😲 Are you seriously suggesting one would measure fuel temperatures on a NASA space shuttle using an infrared thermometer? Certainly not one designed for checking a toddler's fever. Calibration is a process reserved for industrial settings where extreme precision is mandatory for a specific technological process—say, staying within a 0.5% margin of error.

That temperature variance is already factored in, ensuring the reading actually reflects your true body temperature.

I will concede that a traditional mercury thermometer offers greater precision, but is it truly practical to use one on small children? Especially when they are being particularly fussy or uncooperative...

Furthermore, if my own temperature hits 99.5°F, does it really matter whether the device reads 99.1 or 99.9? It is negligible to me. This is precisely why I find myself favoring infrared thermometers... 👍

Does anyone here have firsthand experience with them? Are they truly reliable and durable enough for constant use?

I own one of those devices at my house (Braun). It performs flawlessly, though I find the disposable probe covers to be quite expensive. You're looking at roughly $5 for a pack of 20. Furthermore, is it even remotely hygienic to be pressing a thermometer into a child's ear using a used cover? 😛

Starbucks in Health ·
Well, let’s be reasonable... while I wouldn't claim it is a perfect fountain of health and vitality, surely drinking a glass of Starbucks is a superior choice compared to a glass of Coca-Cola? (Not that I have an issue with Pepsi, mind you)
Then again, if you prepare that Starbucks using tap water that is teeming with harmful additives like nitrates and other contaminants, does the supposed health benefit of the drink even remain intact?
It leads one to the inevitable conclusion: in this day and age, truly healthy options seem to have vanished entirely...

But if you are asking for my personal stance on the matter: I will take the Starbucks every single time! 👍
