So my dad’s going through chemo right now because he’s battling lung cancer, and I’ve been the one playing chauffeur—driving him back and forth from the hospital, which is about 62 miles away. One time, the guy was in absolute agony with hip pain on the way home, so I reached out to the transport service at our local community health center and asked if they could just drop him off right at his apartment—which happens to be on the 4th floor. But get this: they basically just handed me a stretcher and told me I’d have to haul him up those four flights myself.
Here’s what I want to know: Is the medical transport service at a community health center actually obligated to get a patient as incapacitated as my dad up to the 4th floor, or am I supposed to just rely on family and neighbors to do the heavy lifting?
(I already sent this whole mess over to the Department of Health and Human Services to see what they say, but I want to hear your take too)
