I was wondering if someone could give me a hand here. I'm running into some trouble installing my SATA controller. My setup uses a DFI Infinity NF4 motherboard paired with a Maxtor 6V250FO 250 GB hard drive. Every time I finish installing Windows, that little green "Safely Remove Hardware" arrow pops up in the bottom right corner of the taskbar. When I click it, it asks if I want to safely eject the drive. From what I understand, seeing that icon usually means the SATA controller hasn't been properly installed on the board yet. I checked the DFI website, but they don't explicitly list which specific controller is integrated into this board. I did find a floppy disk that came with the motherboard containing a few options: "SATA RAID driver," "Nvidia SATA storage driver," and "Silicon Image 3114 rev 1.0." Does anyone know which one of these I should be using to get everything running correctly? So far, I've tried installing the last one, but no luck.
Just a quick question here!
I'm running a DFI Infinity NF4 motherboard with an Athlon 64 3000+ processor, 2x512 DDR 400 RAM, one 250 GB SATA HDD, and one 160 GB UDMA HDD. My power supply is a hiper 4 S350SU 350 w along with some other standard components. I just ordered a new Nvidia 7600 gt, and I was wondering if my current power supply will be able to handle this setup, or if I'll need to upgrade that as well.
Hey everyone!
I was wondering what your thoughts are on the X800XL. Specifically, I'm curious about its bit rate, and if there might be a better option out there for the same price tag.
THANKS!
It looks to me like you overclocked your CPU, and now it’s actually slowing things down. My advice? Don't touch the memory clock in the BIOS; just leave it set to "by SPD." That way, your RAM runs at 200x2 (400) MHz. Instead, try increasing the processor clock gradually, and make sure you run stability tests every single time to ensure everything stays steady. If your memory speed is tied directly to the processor clock, it's likely dropping to 166x2 (333) MHz, which is causing the slowdown because your motherboard probably doesn't support asynchronous operation.
Since you're running a Barton 2500, I'd honestly suggest not touching anything unless you are 100% certain of what you're doing. You risk frying the chip, or worse, taking out everything on the motherboard. Because the Barton has a locked multiplier, cranking up the clock speed usually bumps up the PCI Express bus speeds as well. As I mentioned before, the only way to truly unlock that multiplier is by bridging the L1 and L2 contacts on the processor using a thin wire and a soldering iron.
You can bump up the FSB without any real headache if your motherboard BIOS supports asynchronous operation. On my board, I increase the processor bus speed while keeping the memory and AGP clocks constant. This way, I've never run into stability issues with the CPU or any other components on the board. At factory settings, my processor runs at 1912 MHz, but by cranking up the bus speed, I managed to push it to 2.2 GHz. Just a heads-up though—the multiplier isn't unlocked on Barton cores; you have to manually short the L1 and L2 contacts on the chip to unlock it, which isn't exactly a simple task to pull off.
Hey everyone!
Thanks for the help with the graphics cards. Here is my current setup:
AMD Athlon 2600+, 1GB of PC 3200 RAM (2x512), 160GB WD hard drive, ASUS 9600 XT, Soltek SL-75FRN2 motherboard with an nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, and more...
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this configuration is actually worth on the market right now.😕
I’m looking for some advice on which graphics card to pick for a new build I'm putting together. Most of the info I find online feels a bit scattered:
- radeon x1600 xt
- radeon x800 gto
- Nvidia 6600
- Nvidia 6800 GS
Also, what are your thoughts on this CPU: Intel Pentium D 805 2.66 GHz?
- 2 x 1 MB cache
- Socket LGA 775
- BUS 533 MHz
- Prescott core
- EM64T
- Dual core intel d 805
I'm currently using an AMD Athlon 2600+, which I've been extremely happy with. I was originally considering an AMD Athlon 64, but this processor caught my eye because the price is quite low, around $367
