I had my rig running at 240x11 with the SPD set to 3.33, but after a few days, it just reverted to default settings out of nowhere following a reboot. Temperatures seemed fine... I only bumped the voltage up slightly from 1.325 to 1.350.
I guess I'm wondering why it would decide to change its own settings like that?
Tried running at 280x10 with an FSB of 3; the system won't even boot Windows. It just keeps restarting. CPU voltage shows a normal 1.325V, I guess, and all the other voltages seem standard too since I haven't touched them.
Now I’ve switched to 240x11 (2640) with an FSB of 3.33 (799). Orthos is running fine without any issues. I think I'll just leave it there. I mean, I'm hitting speeds nearly identical to an Intel Core 2 Duo E6700, and you mentioned I might squeeze out another 300MHz later—probably wouldn't notice much difference anyway. Just hoping I didn't fry something inside.😁I suppose I'd know if I did, assuming the PC actually died.🙂
CPU-Z shows the core voltage sitting between 1.280V and 1.296V
e, undervolting... I wouldn't even know what the target should be, or if what I have is too high or too low. For the most part, I've got it set to manual, though I left each individual voltage on auto.
aha... just saw another post.😁
Do I need to step this up gradually again, or can I just jump straight to 280*10?
..Also, when the multiplier isn't at 11x, my dad’s old PC reads the frequency wrong, and it does the same thing when I check the properties in My Computer.. I guess it might be happening to others too?

Yep. Both are off.
I can't find the stress.txt file, and searching for it isn't turning up anything either. Just my luck...
It looks like this:
Gradually bumped it up to 11x255 (2805); SPD=3.20 (816)
-The TAT crashes whenever there's a load, then I can't even get back into Windows.
Same thing happens at 9x312 (2808); SPD=2.50 (780)
Keeping latencies the same: 5-5-5-15
Dropped it down to 11x250 (2750); SPD=3.2 (800)
TAT temps were sitting at 67/65, while CoreTemp showed 69/67. After about 20 minutes of use, the PC just rebooted itself.
Orthos temps stayed around 52, but after ninety seconds, the alarm goes off:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 1 minutes 22 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.
What exactly gave out on me?😕
What's the move here? Should I just revert to 2.6GHz where everything seemed fine?

Your FSB is only 237MHz, while your memory is running at 569MHz. It’ll definitely handle CL4 at stock settings. I guess you should bump the SPD up to at least 3.33 and set it to CL5.
The E4500 can probably handle 266x11 without much trouble. Just set the SPD to 3 and CL5, and that should be a decent clock for 24/7 use.
Oof... those numbers seem a bit risky.😁
I read somewhere that this CPU can hit about 3.0 GHz on stock, but we'll see.
So, you're suggesting if I go with 266x11, I should stick to 5-5-5-18, but if I stay at my current frequency, I could drop to 4-4-4-12?
In both scenarios, I can push the SPD to at least 3?
Oh, one more thing... what temperature threshold should I set in the BIOS to trigger an alarm before things get dangerous?
Thanks, much appreciated..
Like I said, I’m going to stick with 2.6 GHz for a few days and see how things go. I'm already hitting the frequency of an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, which is pretty much my end goal here..😁Maybe later I'll try pushing to 2.8 GHz and set the Latency to 4-4-4-12, assuming I don't have to bump up the voltage. I'm a total novice at this, so messing around in the BIOS scares me a bit, and even just applying thermal paste or tinkering with the cooler feels like a massive chore right now. 🙂
What's the ideal TAT I should be looking at to verify stability?
Orthos has been running for 2.5 hours now without any issues; the PC is passing every test..nice.
So, I have a few questions if you don't mind... I've been reading up on overclocking on various forums for a couple of days now, but whenever I actually open my BIOS and see all those intense options, I get a bit lost.😕
My specs are in my signature.
I tried following what darkowl72 recommended, so here is how I set it up:
I bumped the Intel up by 5-6 and ended up at 11x237 (2.61GHz)
Set PCIe lock to 100
JEDEC at 2.40
For the Latency settings, I used 5-5-5-18 for the first four numbers.
(Disabled EIST, Thermal monitor, and CPU enhanced halt)
Voltages are still at default.
I'm just using the stock cooler.
Orthos has been running for about 40 minutes now, and so far, everything seems fine.
Core Temp shows the cores are sitting around 56-58 C.
A few questions:
- Is there anything else I should probably tweak in the settings? Like the Latency—is it better to have higher or lower numbers?
- I’m planning to run this CPU 24/7, which I guess should be okay. Could I potentially push it even further with this stock cooler? (I'm not trying to hit some extreme record; I just want to feel good about getting a budget chip that performs like something twice the price.)
Thanks a lot.
