There’s just useless drama happening now over nothing—just people typing about what’s allowed, which is literally why this forum exists. Andy did a killer job, as per usual.
But the real kicker is that I’m the one who pulled this topic out of nowhere; if it weren't for me, nobody would even be talking about this. So yeah, consider me the ultimate shadow moderator.
P.S.: In my humble opinion, Frey would make an awesome mod, and I'm putting my vote in!🍿

Hallelujah! Finally! That’s the whole point. You all stepped up and handled the situation unanimously. You made it crystal clear that such behavior won't fly. That’s all that matters. We don't even need a moderator. This is how you should handle things from now on.

The "undeniably" problematic posts weren't left up because we let them stay. They get deleted. Otherwise, they're gone.
Matthew Castillo5 said:The real issue is that nobody bothered to moderate anything until everyone started losing their minds and making a scene.

What exactly is being moderated if nobody's touching anything?
goldeneagle36 said:I wouldn't delete it; I'd leave it up as a way to honor the person while making it crystal clear exactly what kind of behavior won't be tolerated around here.

That’s exactly what happened. So what’s the issue?
goldeneagle36 said:Only three more days? Are you kidding me? I went ahead and posted my question about what I actually care about—specifically regarding chat moderation, since I’ve dealt with that mess before—and honestly, after seeing how much stupider stuff has been discussed here for days on end, I can't exactly remember anyone making a huge scene or pushing any serious agendas.

Regarding Anderson's question, I'm honestly not sure what the standard procedure is for situations like this, but if we aren't actively moderating the chat or if someone starts deleting posts and ends up killing the flow of the conversation, I’d probably just hand out a warning or go straight to a ban. And when the time comes to make that call, wouldn't it be essential to include a clear disclaimer to ensure the forum isn't held responsible for those kinds of views?
It’s honestly pretty awkward trying to weigh in on things when I’m completely in the dark—I mean, how am I supposed to have an informed opinion on the nitty-gritty details of moderation protocols, specific admin permissions, UI design tweaks, or even just what’s technically feasible behind the scenes?
And yeah, the moderators actually have lives—honestly, I thought I made that pretty damn obvious when I wrote it in my previous post.

If we’re actually treating this as a serious question about moderation and advice—and I mean truly serious, without a shred of sarcasm—then why on earth hasn't anyone succeeded at it yet? Or rather, has anyone even come close? 😁

I asked what you'd do about problematic content, not how you'd handle punishments (those are secondary). You don't need to be an expert on moderation protocols or interface design to answer that. When faced with a direct test—a real scenario—your answer is "I don't know." If you're going to offer advice or criticism, you actually have to know something. 🙂Disclaimers and distancing statements aren't necessary if the rules of the Reddit community already cover it.

Byron said he'd delete everything. Hazen (who is already an advisor, by the way) has also weighed in.
goldeneagle36 said:I honestly don't get why things aren't moderated if a moderator happens to be online at the moment or even just catches up on everything later on?
Of course, nobody can be hovering over the screen twenty-four seven, but surely someone eventually reads through it all. Shouldn't a decision be made even without an official report being filed? This was blatant hate speech, plain and simple, not some ambiguous comment where I'm left wondering if it actually warrants a penalty.
As far as reporting goes, there have been plenty of times when reports were submitted and yet nothing was sanctioned on the threads, which just makes you want to stop bothering with the report button altogether. In today's situation, I tried to point out how inappropriate the language was right there in the chat, but I didn't bother filing a formal report because, let's face it—the chat isn't moderated, and I know that firsthand since I've tried reporting things there before only to have nothing happen.

Are you going to moderate or just offer advice? Here’s a question for you:

If you're a mod and you don't react to a problematic post the second it hits, and instead a massive thread starts building up—multiple pages of users piling on—what do you actually do?

a) Delete everything—the original post and every single reply referencing it.
b) Just delete the original post.
c) Do nothing.
d) Something else.

Picture this exact scenario. I’m open to hearing from anyone who thinks they have the perfect moderation strategy. 🙂
The chats aren't really moderated anyway. Things only get handled if someone actually reports them.

What's the point of deleting the original posts? You’re the one who highlighted the garbage in the first place. By dragging them out into the public eye, you just made them more visible. If we’re being consistent, we should start by nuking your post, along with everything else brought here. I doubt you'd be thrilled about that. They stay up because they show how this community reacts to spam and where we stand on it.

So, you want to moderate?
This is exactly why I advocate for moderating forum users. 👍

Mods don't catch everything. Thanks for pointing it out. Your reaction matters way more than any sanction, and trust me, sanctions will come.
Reddit is down again in Feedback & Suggestions ·
We’re sorry about the Reddit outage. This is a snippet from an email sent by the hosting provider where the glitch occurred.

To whom it may concern,

While performing scheduled maintenance on one of our data center's power feeds, an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) failed. This caused a portion of our network equipment to lose power, leading to service disruptions and making certain tools difficult or impossible to access.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Best,

I’d say you actually care about why your posts (and some others) were scrubbed from Engineering. It’s for the exact reason you’re questioning: we aren't here to move arguments elsewhere and run a circus.

I’ve stepped in as a guest mod before, and I’ve deleted personal bickering that just gets in the way of a real discussion.

😁

I didn't know that. Look, Larry Walker24, maybe try the Variety sub or some other friendly forum. 🤷

You can stay here too. You've got plenty of supporters if we want to lighten the mood a bit. 😁
Larry Walker24 said:Here you go:

Hallelujah, finally. What a collection. 🙏 Next time, make sure you put that in the very first post. 🙂

Look, I'm generally all for giving people second chances—even seventh ones—because some folks just need more time. 🙂 The thing is, Casilda does an excellent job moderating Eurovision, and I have no intention of stepping on his toes. He gets the final say on this.

Let's be real: given how intense you get, your over-the-top enthusiasm, and your tendency to spam, I just can't see you being a normal user on the Eurovision board. You'll end up flooding and suffocating it with too many posts. That’s your crime, isn't it?

Then again, it would be a shame to let all that energy go to waste. 😁 So, just start your own Eurovision thread over in Fun Music. Dora should do the same.

Anthony Morales65: Larry Walker24, I think this is actually the fourth time you've been flagged on the Television pdf. You definitely can't claim you weren't given enough chances. It’s on you that you blew every single one of them.

April 15, 2021:
Casilda: Per the Television pdf moderator's decision, the partial ban stands. You can request to have it lifted in November 2021.

Spokesperson: From what I understand, there are legitimate reasons why Larry Walker24 doesn't have access to that subforum.

I still don't see what the actual reason is?

Links, please.
Larry Walker24 said:Can I get my partial access extended for 30 days (02/01 - 03/01)? I need the pdf Eurovision so I can finally tear into Dora's performance.

Everything else on the Television PDF stays under partial access because, frankly, I don't give a damn about it.

I’ve respected the partial rules for years now—never once have I tried to fake an account. My post count on the PDF is zero.

If anyone actually cares about the history of Eurovision, you can read it here:

You set this thread up all wrong. This isn't a thread about Eurovision history; it's a thread about your personal drama. You should have included links to every previous thread regarding your suspension. Everything is documented there. Not everyone knows your specific situation, and even those who do need to refresh their memory to see if anything has changed since then.

Here’s a more recent cumulative setlist, which is pretty much what you get at their earlier shows too.
